Celtic legends game with Borussia Dortmund to include Georgios Samaras

Another star former player has been announced for the Celtic legends game with Borussia Dortmund on Sunday May 26th.

Fan favourite Georgios Samaras will join the lineup, having made 249 appearances, scoring 74 goals in green and white.

The game will take place the day after the Scottish Cup Final, leaving Celtic supporters with the prospect of an exciting weekend to finish off the season.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Celtic Foundation who are organising the event, and will help to feed those affected by the cost of living crisis as well as helping to find the expansion of the Paradise Pit Stop Project at Celtic Park.

Swedish defender Mikael Lustig was also announced recently, a player who made 273 total appearances for the club over an eight-season spell.

Lustig will join the likes of goalkeeper Artur Boruc, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Scott Brown, Charlie Mulgrew and Joe Ledley.

Paul Lambert will likely be rotating between both sides, as a man who won four league titles with Celtic and also lifted the Champions League with Dortmund during his playing career.

β€œIt is a particularly special occasion for me given my connection to both clubs and I’m sure it’ll make for a fantastic match here at Celtic Park, all for a wonderful cause,” Lambert told Celtic's website.

β€œI know this Dortmund Legends squad very well, and they have some fantastic former players, but we’re pulling together a strong Celtic squad with a number of players who I am sure the fans will be delighted to see back in the Hoops.”

Lining up for Dortmund will be legends such as Roman Weidenfeller, Karl-Heinz Riedle, Marcel Schmelzer and Dede.
