Ahead of what is more than likely the fixture all Chelsea fans look forward to most at the start of each campaign, supporters of the club marked the fixture as an opportunity to show appreciation to local lad Gallagher.
The 24-year-old has been one of the few positives at Stamford Bridge this term, with his passion and work rate a massive hit among supporters.
Despite reports suggesting the club's owners are looking to potentially offload the Englishman in the summer in order to balance the books, he is incredibly popular among a large portion of the fanbases – demonstrated in this fixture.
A tifo display depicting Gallagher himself and a message reading “Chelsea since birth” was brandished at Stamford Bridge, reminding Todd Boehly and co of the importance of having academy graduates in the side.
A chance to save a terrible season
Gallagher is the very definition of hard work and passion, with his constant desire to win the ball back making him a fan-favourite at the club. They are two words that can be levelled at very few players in the team this campaign, and it was a fitting moment to remind all of them that they are the basics of football.
Although the tifo does not explicitly state that, choosing to praise the midfielder was likely a deliberate choice for this very reason.
Chelsea are currently enduring a terrible season by their own incredibly high standards, but remarkably, victory over their bitter rivals in the famous ‘Battle of the Bridge' would see the Blues climb to eighth, just three points adrift of Manchester United in sixth.
With that in mind, this Conor Gallagher tifo was an ingenious way for the Chelsea fans to both praise a fan favourite, and remind several other players of how important it is to work hard in the remaining fixtures.
