Chicago city guide: Key information for Leeds and Liverpool fans

Liverpool struggled throughout 2025-26, failing to defend their Premier League title and going trophyless under Arne Slot, but the club will be hoping for a fresh start with Andoni Iraola at the helm.

The former Bournemouth manager will lead his new side on a pre-season tour of the United States this summer, facing Sunderland at Nashville's GEODIS Park and Wrexham at New York's Yankee Stadium, before a showdown with Leeds United at Chicago's Soldier Field on August 2.

Iraola should have almost the entirety of his squad available in early August, with Alexis Mac Allister of Argentina and Victor Munoz of Spain the only Reds players to reach the final of World Cup 2026.

Here, Football Ground Guide covers all the key information for Liverpool fans heading to Chicago to watch the Merseysiders face Leeds at Soldier Field.

How many Liverpool fans are going to Chicago?

Twenty-time Premier League champions Liverpool are amongst the biggest clubs anywhere on Earth, and are followed by millions of fans around the world.

The windy city is sure to be chock full of the Reds' faithful for the clash against Leeds, with Soldier Field – home to the NFL's Chicago Bears and MLS' Chicago Fire – capable of hosting 61,500 spectators, not to mention those that will be showing their support without a ticket to the match.

The Merseysiders are often met by tens of thousands during their pre-season tours of the USA and East Asia, so expect to see similar numbers show out at Soldier Field and in the city of Chicago itself for this game.

Where will Liverpool fans sit at Soldier Field

Given the disparity in club size, Liverpool fans should make up most of the crowd at Soldier Field, and supporters are free to purchase tickets in any area of the stadium.

As things stand, the cheapest prices are sitting around £63 for a seat in the upper tier, while a spot lower down closer to the action could run you at least £110, with some listings even higher.

How to get to Soldier Field: Guide for Liverpool fans in Chicago

Public Transport

Soldier Field can easily be reached using Chicago's public transport system, with both train and bus services offer a viable route to the ground.

Those looking to travel by bus should take either the 146 (alighting at Inner Drive/Michigan Express) or 130 (alighting at Museum Campus). Bus fare in Chicago is $2.25 (£1.68) for one trip when paying contactless, or $2.50 (£1.87) in cash.

Heading to the game by train? Use the Metra service to reach downtown Chicago quickly, getting off at 18th Street (Zone 2) or Museum Campus/11th Street (Zone 1).

Fares for the Metra vary based on the zones that you travel through, but are reasonable enough. One way prices are below:

  • Zones 1 and 2: $3.75 (£2.80)
  • Zones 1, 2 and 3: $5.50 (£4.11)
  • Zones 1, 2, 3 and 4: $6.75 (£5.04)
  • Zones 2, 3 and 4: $3.75 (£2.80)

Rideshare service

Soldier Field can be found in the Museum Campus area of downtown Chicago, which is serviced by Uber and Lyft.

The area features marked zones for drivers to pick up and drop off visitors, and those using a rideshare service to head to the ground from Loop or River North locations are looking at a fare in the $10-15 (£7.47-11.21) range.

Given that a surge is likely after the game, consider walking down by the Museum Campus bus stops to be picked up when getting away from the ground.

Walking

The walk to Soldier Field is often rated as one of the best pre-game walks at any NFL venue, and thanks to the stadium's downtown location, there are an abundance of hotels nearby.

If your accommodation is in the general vicinity, walking along the lakefront path from Grant Park through the museum campus will take 20-30 minutes could be worthwhile.
