Liverpool will be hoping for a reset this summer under new manager Andoni Iraola, having struggled through a troubled 2025-26 campaign with Arne Slot at the helm, failing to protect their Premier League title and missing out on silverware entirely.

As part of the rebuild, the Reds are set to face Wrexham at Yankee Stadium in the early hours of July 30 – kicking off at 00:30 BST – for their second fixture in the pre-season Premier League Summer Series, following a clash against Sunderland at GEODIS Park five days earlier.

Boasting a variable capacity of up to 54,251 spectators, Yankee Stadium is most famous for being the home of the New York Yankees baseball team, but it is also a football ground, serving as the host venue for MLS club New York City FC since 2015.

Liverpool will have most of their squad available for the game against Wrexham, though some stars such as Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina) will be away from the group due to reaching the latter stages of World Cup 2026.

Going to the match yourself? Here, Football Ground Guide covers all you need to know about how to get to Yankee Stadium for Liverpool's friendly with Wrexham.

How to get to Yankee Stadium using public transport

Situated in the Bronx, Yankee Stadium is well-serviced by New York's various public transport links, which include train and bus options.

Subway

The most popular way for fans to get to the ground is by taking the city's famous Subway system, which is used by two million people every day. A single trip will cost you $3.00 (£2.24) one-way, while a seven-day unlimited pass will set you back $35 (£26.12).

Thankfully, Yankee Stadium has its own designated station, ‘161 St-Yankee Stadium', which is easy to reach by taking the B, D or 4 trains – look for signs reading ‘Uptown' or ‘Bronx', as lines going to ‘Manhattan' or ‘Downtown' are heading in the wrong direction.

You should be able to see the ground from 161st Street station, and a short walk will have you at the match. If in doubt, there will be plenty of other fans heading to the game that you can follow.

Contrary to popular belief, the New York City Subway is generally considered safe, though it is advised that passengers be aware of the possible issues that could arise in relation to homelessness.

If you do encounter an individual making a scene on the Subway, locals suggest that just keeping to yourself and changing carriages at the next stop will be enough to avoid any major problems.

Metro-North Railroad

Alternatively, visitors can use the Metro-North Railroad, an overground service which connects the various northern suburbs of New York and Connecticut to New York City itself.

Part of that service runs between local stations in Manhattan and the Bronx, and those travelling to Yankee Stadium from Grand Central Station can catch a train to Yankees E-153rd Street.

However, it is important to keep in mind that while the train ride on the Metro North is quicker than the Subway, 153rd Street is a short (under 10-minute) walk from Yankee Stadium, while the 161st Street Subway stop is within sight of the ground.

Additionally, while the Metro North is more comfortable and has air conditioning, it is also more expensive than the Subway, costing in the region of $10-15 (£7.46-11.20) for a round trip compared to $6.00 (£4.48).

Bus

Yankee Stadium is also accessible by bus, with the Bx6, Bx13, Bx1, Bx2 and BxM4 routes stopping at East 161st Street, while the latter also runs to the Grand Concourse and East 158th Street.

That being said, taking the bus between Manhattan and Yankee Stadium will take far longer than by train, and is not recommended.

How to get to Yankee Stadium by taxi or rideshare service

A taxi from Times Square to the ground will run you at least $45, and taxis will not be available outside the stadium after the match.

Snagging a driver on a rideshare app will also prove difficult when leaving the venue, so if you want to avoid public transport on your way back, then it is advised that you pre-book a car using a dedicated service, but some of the more popular options could cost upwards of $90 to take you back to Times Square.

Parking near Yankee Stadium

The parking near Yankee Stadium is run by a group called City Parking, whose spots are booked online via their dedicated page.

The available parking spaces for Wrexham vs. Liverpool are as follows:

  • 161st Street Garage (20 East 161s Street): $49 (£36.57)
  • Gerard Ave Lot (1011 Gerard Ave): $49 (£36.57)
  • River Ave Garage (950 River Ave): $49 (£36.57)
