Premier League 2026-27 fixtures announced: Derby dates, international breaks, midweek matches

It has been less than one month since the final day of the 2025/26 Premier League season, but the fixtures for the upcoming campaign have been released and the countdown to the opening game is underway.

The summer transfer window is open and a number of Premier League clubs have already made new signings, while most fans have been kept busy with the ongoing 2026 World Cup which is being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

However, it is not long until domestic football will return and Football Ground Guide brings you all the key dates and information ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Opening weekend of the season

The opening weekend of fixtures will have four days of fixtures. These will take place from Friday, August 21 to Monday, August 24. The opening fixtures are as follows:

How are Premier League fixtures decided?

According to the Premier League, it can take around six months to compile the full fixture list, with the process overseen multinational IT company Atos.

Creating the schedule involves balancing several factors, including the other key dates in the football calendar and local issues like policing requirements and the geographical proximity of clubs.

Once the key factors are taken into account, the system randomly generates a set of fixtures, which is then manually verified by Atos, the Premier League and the English Football League (EFL). Although the EFL is a separate entity and has a different set of key dates, they do still have to work with the Premier League to avoid any major clashes.
