Crystal Palace are reportedly set to receive a £125m loan headed up by Goldman Sachs to support stadium expansion plans.

The Eagles are the FA Cup holders at Selhurst Park, a London venue which holds just over 25,000 supporters.

That figure means that Palace have the fourth-smallest stadium in the Premier League after Bournemouth, Burnley and Brentford.

Oliver Glasner's troops suffered a heavy defeat at their Selhurst Park base last time out, losing 3-0 at the hands of Manchester City.

To the surprise of nobody, Erling Haaland found the net in South London, bagging a brace, with England international Phil Foden also beating compatriot Dean Henderson in the hosts' goal.

Palace will play their penultimate match at Selhurst Park of 2025 when they host Finnish minnows KuPS in the Conference League on Thursday night.

Crystal Palace arrange £125m loan for stadium expansion?

According to Bloomberg, Crystal Palace have taken a major step in executing plans to increase the capacity of Selhurst Park.

The report claims that the Eagles are set to receive a loan of £125m led by Goldman Sachs in order to complete expansion plans on the South London venue.

It is understood that the deal with Goldman Sachs is more favourable than the one that Palace had previously agreed with another financial backer.

The FA Cup holders will supposedly be able to pay back the loan over a longer period, with the agreement tied to the development of the stadium, rather than the club's broadcast income.

The expansion of Selhurst Park is expected to cost a staggering £200m due to the rising cost of construction materials since the original plans were revealed.

When are Crystal Palace starting work on expansion?

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has confirmed that the club are in the position to begin work on their Selhurst Park expansion in January.

The Eagles originally announced their plans to increase the stadium's capacity in 2017, when the expected cost was around £75m.

This figure rose sharply to £150m in 2022 and is now believed to sit at £200m as the world prepares to welcome in 2026.

FGG says: An expected next step

Taking out a loan to fund a stadium project is not an alien concept, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona doing just that in recent times.

It was important that Crystal Palace were patient in some respects to secure a favourable agreement with Goldman Sachs regarding factors such as repayment period.
