Everton owners have seen an advancement in plans for a major new stadium plan in Italy.
As reported by Talk Sport, The Friedkin Group are spearheading a proposal for a new home for Serie A giants Roma.
Developments in Roma's new stadium plans
According to Talk Sport, Roma have submitted key documents in the planning process of their move to a new home and away from the Stadio Olimpico – the iconic ground shared with rivals Lazio.
Plans are now set to go through city council commissions in early 2026 ahead of the record-breaking proposed move.
A club statement read: “The submitted project represents the result of in-depth work carried out with technical precision, attention to sustainability, and a clear vision: to offer the city of Rome and its fans a facility worthy of their history, passion, and future.”
After seeing Everton move to the £760m Hill Dickinson Stadium for the 2025-26 season, after 133 years at Goodison Park, the Friedkin Group – owners of Roma since 2020 – are set to splash out over £1bn on their new Italian proposal.
Planning for a location in the Italian capital's Pietralata district, Roma's new stadium is aiming for a capacity of 62,000, compared to the 70,634 held in the Stadio Olimpico – however the proposed cost of £1.1bn would make it the most expensive stadium ever built in the nation.

When could the new stadium open?
Current plans and expectations see Roma aim to move into their new stadium by 2028.
Such a move would allow the new home to be the venue of possible Euro 2032 matches, with the tournament co-hosted by Italy and Turkey.
Proposals feature a striking south stand behind one goal – The Curva Sud – taking inspiration from the iconic Yellow Wall at Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park, with the stand set to hold 21,000 supporters, making it the largest single end in Europe.
Development plans will also include improved Metro and high-speed rail access around the ground and district, as well as the introduction of new roads, bridges and tram links for supporter access.
FGG says: Friedkin Group continue to show impressive commitment to their clubs
Just months on from the completion of Everton's expensive and switch to a new dockside stadium in Liverpool, one which has been popular with Toffees fans thus far, the ownership group have added to their investment with plans for Roma's move to their own home.
With proposals quickly picking up steam and aiming for a 2028 opening, developments look exciting for I Giallorossi supporters with the ownership group keen to invest in improving the club.
