“Such cursed luck this year”: Fans react to FA Cup quarter-final draw

The FA Cup quarter-final draw was made at 19:00 GMT on ITV4 before Chelsea’s match against Leeds United.

The only confirmed match of the draw is Manchester City against Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.

There are some potentially mouthwatering matchups, most notably Manchester United who could face Liverpool if they manage to beat Nottingham Forest and Liverpool beat Southampton on Wednesday, February 28.

Newcastle fan reaction to draw: “Talk about bad luck”

This season is the first time Newcastle have gone past the FA Cup third round since 2019/20. @thomas hammond__ expressed his disappointment at Newcastle’s cup draws in all competitions this season.

They have already drawn the likes of PSG, Borussia Dortmund and Man City in the UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Other Newcastle fans were similarly frustrated with the FA Cup quarter-final draw. Over on X.com (formerly Twitter), @hillyon said “At this point, it would have been more of a surprise if we didn’t get City in the next round. Such cursed luck this year.”

@GingerPirlo_ listed the world-class opponents Newcastle have faced in the cup competitions this season, stating “this isn’t normal in anyway shape or form. Not even for Newcastle Utd.”

A Manchester United-Liverpool potential matchup

Tonight, Manchester United face a difficult task away at Nottingham Forest, while Liverpool host Southampton at Anfield. The winners of these matches will face off in the quarter-final.

@TheLfcKop said: “BRING ME UNITED”, while another Liverpool fan @GameDayGlitch said: “Please United. End them.”

United fans were less confident of making it through the round of 16. @red_army_1999 said: “Bold of you to assume we’ll beat Forest.”

FA Cup quarter-final draw in full:

  • Wolverhampton Wanderers or Brighton & Hove Albion vs Coventry City
  • Nottingham Forest or Manchester United vs Liverpool or Southampton
  • Chelsea or Leeds United vs Leicester City
  • Manchester City vs Newcastle United

When is the FA Cup quarter-final?
