Supporters heading to the 2026 World Cup have again been left furious after a late ticketing twist.
Many now feel they’ve been misled after paying top prices many months in advance.
FIFA introduce pitch-side World Cup tickets two months before 2026 tournament
FIFA have introduced a brand new ‘Front Category 1' and ‘Front Category 2' tier for the 2026 World Cup – offering seats in the first few rows at significantly higher prices.
The issue? These premium spots were never previously advertised, despite fans already purchasing standard Category 1 tickets under the impression they could land similar seats.
Instead, many early buyers were allocated positions further back, in corners or behind goals, only for FIFA to then release these newly-labelled “front” seats at up to double the original price.
For some matches, the cost jump is stark.
Seats that were previously around $450 (£335) have suddenly been relisted at $900 (£670), while others have surged into the thousands for the same sections, just closer to the pitch.
The move has fuelled accusations that FIFA deliberately held back the best seats to resell at inflated prices, with supporters claiming they were “deceived” by initial seating maps, as per The Athletic.

FGG says: Just when you think it can’t get worse – it does
FIFA’s ticketing has already been under heavy scrutiny, but this takes things to another level.
Fans had paid premium prices thinking they had a fair shot at the best seats, only to watch those exact spots reappear under a new label at even higher costs.
It’s not just frustrating, it actually feels calculated.
At a time when supporters are already being squeezed on travel, accommodation and ticket prices, this is yet another blow, and one that only deepens the growing disconnect between FIFA and the fans the tournament is supposed to be for.
