Football fans are all saying the same thing after Scotland national anthem

One point of discussion that crops up time and time again at international tournaments is national anthems.

While there is a general acceptance that England's isn't the most inspiring, there are plenty of other anthems that truly do get pulses racing before kick-off.

In recent major tournaments, Wales fans have made headlines for their powerful renditions of ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau', and on the opening night of Euro 2024, Scotland fans delivered a fantastic rendition of their national anthem – ‘Flower of Scotland'.

All 11 players on the pitch belted out the Scotland national anthem before their clash with Germany, while every single Scotland fan inside the Allianz Arena must also have sung it at the top of their lungs given the noise that reverberated around Bayern Muncih's stadium during the anthem.

The impact of the anthem wasn't lost on manager Steve Clarke, who appeared to have a tear in his eye on the sidelines during the anthem, while captain Andy Robertson also looked inspired by the moment. It wasn't just those in Munich who were taken aback by the anthem as fans online were also quick to express how impressive it was.

Fans get ‘goosebumps' from Scotland national anthem

Fans from across the home nations were impressed by Flower of Scotland. Taking to X, one England fans posted: “I have no Scottish blood, but Flower of Scotland always gives me goosebumps. Far more inspirational than our National anthem.”

Another said: “Mad how jealous I am of Scotland‘s national anthem. Imagine a rousing and passionate ode to your land, instead of a boring and drab tribute to a bunch of people born into obscene wealth.”

A third added: “Flower of Scotland is the best national anthem. By some distance.”

Unfortunately for Scotland, the rendition of the national anthem wasn't rousing enough to put Germany off their game as it took the hosts just ten minutes to take the lead thanks to a strike from the edge of the penalty area from Florian Wirtz.
