French fans in Munich: Les Bleus supporters dreaming of a historic night

For the first time at Euro 2024, there are now French fans in Munich as Didier Deschamps' men prepare for their blockbuster semi-final against Spain. The contest will be played out at the Allianz Arena, a stadium fitting for such an occasion and both sets of supporters have been making their way over to the city in recent days.

French fans have been all over Germany so far, having played matches in Dusseldorf, Dortmund, Leipzig, and Hamburg. Their fans have been the butt of several jokes everywhere they've been with culinary banter taking over the tournament.

Now they're in Munich for the semi-finals, the serious stuff begins.

How many French fans are in Munich?

France were given a ticket allocation of just 7,000 for the semi-final against Spain at the Allianz Arena, however, more than that have travelled over to the City for the match. French supporters have been soaking up the atmosphere in Munich over the past 24 hours and more are expected to arrive throughout the day ahead of kick-off.

France don't have as big of a support as some of the other teams in the tournament, such as Scotland, England and the Netherlands, but they will still look to create plenty of noise to spur their team on tonight.

Where will French fans in Munich sit at the Allianz Arena?

As mentioned, the French Football Federation received 7,000 tickets for this match and all of these tickets are for seats behind one of the goals at the stadium.  The Spanish Football Federation received the same allocation and they will be situated at the opposite end.

Given the magnitude of the match, it is expected that there will be more French supporters inside the stadium and they will be dotted around the ground. As an estimate, there could be around 15,000 French supporters inside the Allianz Arena tonight.

Munich fan zones for French fans

Munich has a fantastic fan zone at the Olympiapark that French fans will be able to enjoy ahead of their semi-final clash with Spain. Fans will be able to soak up the atmosphere with fellow supporters while grabbing a bite to eat or a nice cold drink.

The OlympiaPark fan zone also has a DJ to keep fans entertained with music in the build-up to kick-off. For any French fans in Munich without tickets, the match will be shown live on a huge floating screen on the Olympic Lake.

Getting to the Allianz Arena – a travel guide for French fans in Munich

The Allianz Arena is around 10km away from Munich City Centre so walking is out of the question unless you want to waste more than two hours of your day.

Given Euro 2024 is attempting to become the most sustainable football tournament of all time, public transport is advised. The easiest and quickest way to to get the stadium is to use the S-Bahn from Munich Main Station to Marienplatz.

From Marienplatz, you will want to board the U6 underground line towards Garching-Hockbruck. Exit to the underground service at Frottmang and then embark on a short walk to the stadium. The total travel time from Marienplatz to Frottmang is around 15 minutes.
