How to get to Gelora Bung Karno Stadium: Best ways for Chelsea fans to travel for AC Milan friendly

Chelsea's pre-season tour of Australia and Asia continues on Saturday, August 8, when Xabi Alonso's side take on AC Milan at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta after back-to-back fixtures against Western Sydney Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur in Sydney.

The contest comes just three days after the Blues face Juventus in Hong Kong, with supporters set to watch their team meet the Rossoneri for the second year running, having faced each other at Stamford Bridge in a friendly in August 2025

This will also be Chelsea's first-ever match against the seven-time European champions on Asian soil and arrives 13 years after the West London club's first visit to Indonesia, when more than 80,000 supporters filled the same venue to watch the Blues hammer an Indonesia All-Stars side 8-1.

There is even more excitement around the trip after the BlueCo-owned outfit agreed a club-record £117m deal to sign England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, giving Alonso another major addition as he continues reshaping his squad.

The Gelora Bung Karno Stadium is located in the Gelora district of Central Jakarta, close to the Senayan area of South Jakarta, although the two neighbourhoods are so closely connected that the sports complex is often simply referred to as being in Senayan. 

Its official address is Jalan Pintu Satu Senayan, while the nearby Senayan City and Plaza Senayan shopping malls are among the easiest landmarks to use if you need to find your way around the area.

How to get to the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium

By MRT (Mass Rapid Transit)

The quickest way to reach the ground is on Jakarta's MRT Line 1, with Istora Mandiri station just a short walk from the main entrance.

Senayan station, one stop further south, is a better option for supporters staying near Senayan City or Plaza Senayan, with both shopping centres within easy walking distance, while those based around the Sudirman corridor or SCBD may find Istora Mandiri the more convenient choice. 

Fans arriving on Jakarta's commuter rail network can change onto the MRT at Dukuh Atas BNI station before travelling two stops to Istora Mandiri.

By TransJakarta bus

The TransJakarta busway also provides a straightforward route, with the Gelora Bung Karno stop on Corridor 1, which runs between Blok M and Kota, leaving supporters right outside Pintu 1 Senayan.

Several other routes pass close to the venue, making the bus a handy alternative if the MRT is particularly crowded on matchday.

By train

Palmerah station, on Jakarta's KRL Commuter Line, is around a 20-minute walk from the stadium and is a practical choice for supporters travelling from other parts of Java.

By taxi or car

A taxi from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport usually takes between 45 and 60 minutes in normal traffic, although the journey can take much longer during peak hours. 

Ride-hailing services such as Grab and Gojek are popular across Jakarta and often cost less than street taxis, while motorcycle taxis provide a quicker option for the final part of the journey when roads become heavily congested.

How can I get from Hong Kong to Jakarta?

With only three days between Chelsea's meeting with Juventus at Kai Tak Stadium and the AC Milan friendly in Jakarta, many travelling supporters are expected to continue on to Indonesia rather than head home between matches.

The journey is more straightforward than many might expect, with Cathay Pacific and Garuda Indonesia both operating regular direct flights from Hong Kong International Airport to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, with the trip taking between four hours 45 minutes and five hours 15 minutes depending on the airline and direction of travel.
