Lazio’s Stadio Flaminio row deepens as social organisations demand release of feasibility study

Lazio's plans to redevelop the Stadio Flaminio are under fresh scrutiny, with 11 social organisations demanding greater transparency over the project.

The groups want the club's full feasibility study published before authorities make further decisions on the future of the historic Rome stadium.

Stadio Flaminio project faces further concerns

The preliminary conference examining Lazio's redevelopment plans concluded on August 13th, with the institutions involved issuing positive opinions.

However, organisations including Carteinregola, WWF, Italia Nostra, Openpolis, The Good Lobby and the Fondazione Pierluigi Nervi Project say the most important document remains unavailable to the public.

The groups are calling for Lazio's complete feasibility study and subsequent additions to be published, arguing residents should be able to properly examine the proposals before the project potentially receives public-interest status.

They have also requested an open meeting with residents of the Flaminio and Parioli districts, who could be directly affected by the redevelopment.

The organisations have pointed to previous stadium projects in Rome, including AS Roma's Pietralata plans, where feasibility documentation was made available during the planning process.

Their concerns extend beyond the stadium itself, with the redevelopment potentially affecting transport and the wider development of the surrounding area.

There is nothing unreasonable about residents and civic groups wanting to see the details of a project that could have a major impact on their neighbourhood.

Lazio's redevelopment could be transformative for the Flaminio, but transparency needs to be part of that process.

The project has already reached an important stage with positive institutional opinions, so publishing the feasibility study would give everyone a clearer understanding of what is actually being proposed rather than allowing speculation to dominate the debate.
