Man City fans in Leipzig: Full matchday guide to the Red Bull Arena

Manchester City travel to the east of Germany to take on RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday 4 October on Matchday 2 in Group G.

The Red Bull Arena, known as the Leipzig Stadium on UCL nights due to sponsorship agreements, will provide the backdrop as Pep Guardiola’s side seek to build on their opening victory in this season’s European campaign over Red Star Belgrade in which they came from behind to win 3-1.

RBL are likely to provide the sternest competition to City in this group and, after making a strong start to their Bundesliga campaign in recent weeks, they will be determined to use their home advantage to take the game to the Treble winners, which should make for an entertaining contest.

How many Man City fans in Leipzig?

For this game, Manchester City have been allocated 2,261 tickets for the fixture, with prices ranging from a very reasonable £13.50 to £19.00.

This trip will represent familiar territory for many of the City fans after last season's encounter in the UEFA Champions League last-16. On that occasion, a 1-1 scoreline was played out in the first leg to suggest a close encounter to follow, but it turned out very different.

In the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, Erling Haaland inspired his Man City team to record a 7-0 romp over the German side.

Where will Man City fans in Leipzig gather pre-match?

Those who have visited Leipzig previously will know that it is a great venue for an away day with plenty of bars and restaurants in a tidy, compact city centre, not too far from the stadium.

The picturesque Market Square, including the Old Town Hall, will be the location for the main gathering of City supporters on Wednesday.

Where do the Man City fans stand in the Leipzig Stadium

Away supporters are situated in Section C, along the side of the pitch, nearest to the south-east corner of the stadium which provides an excellent view of the action.

Sections B and D are the ‘fan-blocks’ behind the goals at each end which are strictly for home supporters only. In other areas of the ground, away supporters are permitted in what are considered ‘mixed areas’, providing one of the main differences in German football.

Full fans’ matchday guide for Manchester City v RB Leipzig

Regular travelling fans will be used to the routine of a European away day, which varies significantly from a run of the mill domestic game.

Some will head straight to the main gathering point to enjoy a few local beers, whilst others like to take in as much as possible in a new city.

Where to eat & drink for Man City fans in Leipzig

Germany is arguably the best destination for an away game given the fervent football culture that exists in the country, as well as its fantastic beer heritage. Add that to the short plane journey and what’s not to like?

For eating and drinking, you can’t go wrong in the old East German city.

The Market Square area provides a plethora of bars, cafes and restaurants, who serve anything from the typical street food of doner and currywurst to something a bit more substantial.

For food and drink, check out Brauhaus an der Thomaskirche. This place serves up an interesting menu consisting of typical hearty German dishes as well as some Italian-inspired pizza and pasta.

As for the beer, you won’t be disappointed. The local Leipziger variety from this venue is recommended.
