Manchester United have unveiled a new ticketing system ahead of next season which hasn't gone down well with season ticket holders. From the 2024/25 season, match tickets at Old Trafford will only be able to be accessed via a live QR code on the club's official mobile phone app.
At present, QR codes are used for Man Utd tickets but they aren't ‘live' which means they can be passed on to others via screenshots. However, ‘live' QR codes which will refresh every three minutes will prevent fans from being able to pass on their tickets to friends and family should they be unable to attend.

The issue of passing tickets on to others has been a point of contention since the beginning of this season. Season ticket holders at Old Trafford are only allowed to officially forward their ticket on to registered members. If that isn't an option, then they can sell the ticket back to the club for certain games.
The club's reasoning for moving to live QR codes is to try and prevent ticket touts from purchasing tickets and selling them on for profit. However, season ticket holders are claiming that the policy is yet another attack on working class fans.
Man Utd live QR code tickets: Fans have their say
Man Utd season ticket holders believe that the club's decision to move to live QR codes is nothing more than an attempt to get more fans to sell their tickets back to the club. In recent years, these tickets have then been re-sold by the club at inflated prices.
One fan took to social media to post: “Beginning of the end lads, the club absolutely hates the fans. Live QR codes, absolutely zero chance of helping a mate out now.”

Another said: “The club don’t want us in there, they want rid of every ST holder and replace with fans from all around the world – fans that will be dressed head to toe in club shop gear, buy everything in the shop/bar etc.”
It isn't the only new season ticket policy that has fallen on deaf ears. The club have also implemented a system whereby season ticket holders must attend 17/19 home Premier League games next season otherwise they will have their season ticket taken off them.
