New Argentina chant continues to shine at the Copa America

South American football fans are known to be some of the most passionate in the world, and Argentina supporters are no different.

Before the start of the 2024 Copa America., one Argentina fan took to social media to release a new Argentina chant and to say it has gone down well would be an understatement.

The song pays homage to both Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi and also makes several references to the strained relationship between the United States of America and Argentina.

La Aliceleste entered the tournament looking to become back-to-back Copa America champions and they have so far done everything they've needed to do. They now have a final against Colombia to look forward to on Sunday night and the new chant will no doubt get an airing.

Theย  lyrics are of course in Spanish, but, when translated into English, they are as follows:

To win another cup with Leo is what Iโ€™m picturing,
To bring it home from the USA to Argentina,
And to show everyone what it means to be Argentine.

That the Yanks will not believe,
That Argentina 30 years later,
Will get the revenge Maradona is owed,
Fans of other nations wonโ€™t understand it.

Wherever Argentina play Iโ€™ll be by your side,
Dropping everything else for the selection,
It doesnโ€™t matter what FIFA say, what the newspapers say,
The kids who died in Malvinas in heaven want to see us champions.

Argentina team sing new Argentina chant

After overcoming Canada in the semi-finals of the competition, the Argentina players celebrated by singing along to the popular new chant on the team bus after the match.

The video displays just how close the connection is between Argentina and their supporters as if any further evidence was needed. The fans travel in huge numbers to every major tournament that Argentina play in and have been the most vocal supporters at the 2024 Copa America.

Other popular Argentina chants

Given their passionate and large fanbase, it will come as no surprise to learn that Argentina have a particularly large songbook. In fact, many of the popular songs we hear on a weekly basis in English football have made their way over from South America after being created by fans of Boca Juniors and River Plate.

For the national team, anthems are commonplace. During the World Cup in Qatar, the song that became synonymous with them was called ‘Muchachos'. Like the new Copa America chant, it became so popular that members of the first team were seen singing it at different points throughout the tournament.

The lyrics to this popular chant, in English, are:

I was born in Argentina, land of Diego and Lionel,
Of the kids from Malvinas, which I will never forget.

Because you won't understand,
The finals we lost, how many years I cried for them.
