Newcastle's Carabao Cup match with AFC Wimbledon was postponed due to severe overnight flooding in South London.
After a morning of speculation, AFC Wimbledon confirmed that the fixture wouldn't go ahead as planned, issuing the following statement:
“We regret to inform supporters that due to extensive overnight flooding of the River Wandle and surrounding areas, including at our Cherry Red Records Stadium, Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup third-round fixture against Newcastle United has been postponed.”
Newcastle vs AFC Wimbledon re-arranged: All the key info
The flooding at the Cherry Red Records Stadium is so severe that it has been decided by both clubs and the competition that the match will now be played at St James' Park instead.
Wimbledon said earlier that the ‘stadium is closed until further notice' which suggests that the pitch damage could require significant work to get the ground fit for purpose once again.
Meanwhile, Newcastle said that the match is now being played at their home stadium to ‘enable the fixture to go ahead', which suggests that this was the only solution to the conundrum.
The match will now take place on Tuesday, 1 October with the match now kicking off at 19:45 UK time. As a result, AFC Wimbledon's planned fixture with Crewe Alexandra, which was also pencilled in for 1 October, has been postponed.

How to get tickets for Newcastle vs AFC Wimbledon
Newcastle tickets
Newcastle have acted quickly to inform supporters about the ticket sales process for the re-arranged cup tie. Refunds for all supporters who had purchased tickets for the away end at the Cherry Red Records Stadium will be processed on 24 September.
For the re-arranged clash, Newcastle season ticket holders who have opted into the Carabao Cup scheme will have payment taken by the weekend while all remaining tickets will be sold via a ballot for season ticket holders and members with applications being accepted from 10am on 24 September until 10am on 25 September.
Any tickets that remain after the ballot will then be sold via general sale.
AFC Wimbledon tickets
AFC Wimbledon haven't acted quite as quickly and are yet to confirm ticket arrangements although they have said that refunds will be issued as soon as possible.
In terms of their new away fixture, Wimbledon have said they are working with travel companies to get coaches sorted for the trip to Newcastle. Newcastle are yet to confirm the away ticket allocation so there is very little that Wimbledon can currently do in terms of selling tickets for the match at St James' Park.
AFC Wimbledon are also meant to be playing at home in the league this weekend, but the flooding has thrown this fixture into doubt, too. The club have said they will advise on arrangements for this match as soon as possible.
