Portugal and Turkey fans march separately to Signal Iduna Park

Portugal and Turkey face each other in Dortmund this evening and in keeping with the rest of Euro 2024, both sets of supporters have been making a racket in the city centre all day.

After enjoying themselves in nearby pubs and restaurants, Portugal fans and Turkey fans embarked on separate routes to Signal Iduna Park, the home of Borussia Dortmund.

Although Portugal are the favourites for the match, there were far more Turkey fans in Dortmund today and they are expected to outnumber their opponents inside the stadium.

Despite that, the Portuguese march was impressive, particularly when you consider they aren't a nation or fanbase notorious for creating noise at tournaments or for big away followings.

Taking a different route to the stadium, the Turkish contingent was noticeably larger and louder than the Portuguese one, not to take anything away from Portugal and their fans.

However, given more than 60,000 Turks had made their way to Dortmund for the match, it is hardly a surprise that their march to the stadium looked and sounded more intimidating.

Food wars at Euro 2024 continue: Turkey vs Portugal edition

Like most matches at Euro 2024, the pre-match festivities were enjoyed by both sets of fans without any trouble. In fact, everything was good-natured and several Portuguese and Turkish fans were seen enjoying a drink with each other.

Something that has become a running theme throughout the tournament has been the culinary wars between competing nations. Earlier in the tournament, Albania fans were seen comically snapping spaghetti in front of Italy fans before Austria fans followed suit by snapping baguettes in front of France supporters.

This time, Portuguese fans took aim at kebabs.
