‘Exciting opportunities for our players’ – Sunderland Women to play matches at Stadium of Light

Sunderland Women will play at least four league games at the Stadium of Light in the 2024/25 season. The Black Cats play in the Women’s Championship, finishing third in the division last year behind Charlton Athletic and champions Crystal Palace.

Stadium of Light to host Sunderland Women matches

Sunderland Women currently play their home league games at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground. The men’s development squad also play matches at the venue, with only one covered seating area in the Main Stand. In the 2024/25 campaign, though, the women’s team will play a “minimum of four regular season games at the Stadium of Light”. Interest in Sunderland’s Women’s team has grown in recent seasons, as evidenced by the fact that a record 1,477 attended the River Wear Derby in March 2024.

Sunderland AFC Women’s General Manager Alex Clark said: “With the evolution of the women’s game and the current developments to the ground, we are delighted that we will be hosting games at the Stadium of Light. It provides exciting opportunities for our players and allows us to further connect with the city. We are also thankful to still have the existing relationship with Hetton Town Trust as we prepare for the 2024-25 season, and look forward to welcoming existing and new fans back for the new campaign.”

Season tickets available

A day after the news that the Lasses will play a handful of games at the Stadium of Light, the club announced that season tickets for Sunderland Women are now on sale. Early bird tickets cost £50 for adults and just under the £20 mark for under-16s and students. Included in the season ticket is access to the 11 home league matches, including the games taking place at the Stadium of Light.

Regular pricing for season tickets will come into force on August 2, with tickets costing £72 for adults and £30 for students and under-16s. For fans wanting to attend individual matches, an adult ticket is priced at £12, while it is half the price for under-16s and students.
