Swansea City could soon have a new covered fan zone at the Swansea.com Stadium, with a planning application submitted for a facility capable of accommodating around 1,000 supporters.
The metal-clad building would be located behind the South Stand and feature food and drink facilities, a video screen, stage and play area. It would open from three hours before kick-off until one to two hours after matches.
The facility would also be used on non-matchdays for supporter events, performances, markets and food and drink events, giving Swansea another venue for activities throughout the year.
The plans also include a permanent toilet block, while the club has said preliminary work will begin shortly. Swansea is targeting a December opening, although it has stressed that the priority is delivering the best possible supporter experience.
Swansea Council, which agreed to sell the stadium to the club earlier this year, will now determine the planning application.
FGG says: New Swansea fan zone could improve the matchday experience
The proposed fan zone would represent a useful addition to the Swansea.com Stadium, giving supporters a dedicated area to meet before and after matches rather than simply arriving shortly before kick-off.
Its potential use on non-matchdays is also significant, as the facility could provide Swansea City with another space for supporter events and community activities throughout the year.
If approved and delivered as planned, the fan zone should add another dimension to the ground and provide a more rounded matchday experience for supporters.
