Where to stay in Linz: Best hotels and accommodation for Celtic fans

Celtic supporters travelling to Linz for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League playoff against LASK have plenty of accommodation options, whether you are looking for a city-centre hotel close to bars and restaurants or somewhere near the railway station for an easy journey home.

The good news is that Linz is a compact city with an excellent tram network, so staying in the centre is usually the best option. 

The Raiffeisen Arena lies around 3km south-west of the Old Town and can be reached by public transport in around 15-20 minutes.

Best area to stay: Linz Old Town (Altstadt)

For most travelling Hoops fans, the historic Old Town around Hauptplatz is the ideal base.

This is where you will find the city's biggest concentration of pubs, restaurants and cafes, while the main tram routes make getting to the stadium straightforward. 

It is also within walking distance of many of Linz's attractions if you are staying for more than one night.

If you are arriving by train from Vienna or flying home early the following morning, staying near the main railway station can be a smart choice.

The station is well connected by tram to both the city centre and the Raiffeisen Arena, while Vienna Airport can be reached by direct Railjet services.

Should you stay near the stadium?

While there are hotels within a short drive of the Raiffeisen Arena, most visiting supporters will be better off staying in the city centre.

The stadium sits in a mainly residential area, whereas the Old Town offers far more choice for food, drinks and nightlife before and after the match. Linz's tram and bus network also makes travelling to the ground straightforward.
