World’s largest stadium given official name as £26.2bn project progresses

One of the world's largest stadiums is continuing to take shape, with a Vietnamese conglomerate confirming that a landmark 135,000-seat venue will officially be named VinFast Stadium.

The project, which forms part of the huge Hanoi International Sports Complex development, is expected to become the largest stadium in the world with a retractable roof once it has been completed in 2027.

VinFast Stadium set to become a global landmark

Vingroup has confirmed that its electric vehicle subsidiary VinFast will become the naming partner of the ambitious new venue, with the company stating that the brand represents Vietnam's ambition, innovation and desire to compete on the international stage.

The 135,000-seat stadium is being developed at the southern gateway of Hanoi as part of the Hanoi International Sports Complex, a vast 9,100-hectare project with a reported total investment exceeding VND925,000bn (£26.2bn).

The stadium itself will cover 73.3 hectares and has been designed to FIFA standards, with Vingroup hoping it can become a future host venue for major global events including the Asian Games, FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games.

Construction began in late 2025, with the project currently scheduled to be completed in July 2027.

Beyond its record-breaking capacity, VinFast Stadium has been designed with smart technology and sustainability at the centre of its development.

The venue will feature artificial intelligence systems to assist with security management and crowd control, alongside a 5G-connected smart seating system and technology allowing the pitch to be replaced within around six to 10 hours.

Environmental considerations are also a major part of the project, with water recovery and reuse solutions expected to reduce clean water usage by up to 70%, while natural ventilation and heat-resistant materials will help lower energy consumption.

The long-term ambition is for VinFast Stadium to become the centrepiece of Hanoi International Sports Complex, creating a world-class sports, entertainment and cultural destination.
