After running real deposits on matchdays throughout 2026, I have rounded up my favourite football betting sites, starting with Betfair and Betfred.
Below the top two, the right choice depends less on the size of the free bet and more on how you actually bet: singles, accas, in-play, or a specific league. The following eleven bookmakers made my list, and I'll explain after why each one ranks as it does, and with which ones are worth opening an account.
- Betfair
- Betfred
- Betnero
- William Hill
- BetMGM
- Coral
- Ladbrokes
- Bet365
- Unibet
- Bwin
- Planet Sport Bet

Here's the order logic applied, based on total free bet value (then deposit efficiency as tiebreaker). Check our list of the best football world cup betting sites.
Key takeaways
- Top pick overall: Betfair. Fairest football prices on high-liquidity Premier League and Champions League markets.
- Best for accas: Betfred. Free bets offer split as £50 across sports and accumulators.
- Sharpest football odds: Bet365, sampled with the lowest overround across 10 fixtures.
- Biggest headline offer after the top two: BetMGM at £40, though its football margins were the widest we measured.
- Fastest free-bet release: Betfair and Bet365 are credited within minutes; several others take hours.
The free-bet figure is only the headline. The tie breaker was what happens after the qualifying bet settles: Betfair releases its five £10 tokens within a few minutes of the qualifier grading, whereas Betfred's acca tokens took roughly 9 to 11 hours to land during our last two tests. Both are workable, but if you want to use the free bets on the same weekend you deposit, that timing matters.
Consult another guide to compare different sources. For example, you could check out the TNT Sports guide to the best UK football betting sites, which is a useful resource; its approach to analysis is very different from ours and it also comes to a different conclusion.

I've been testing UK betting sites since 2019, opening real accounts, placing bets on live Premier League fixtures, and timing withdrawals end to end. Three things decide where a bookmaker lands: the value you actually get back once the welcome offer terms are met, the depth of markets on a mid-table Premier League game rather than a top-six fixture where everyone looks good, and how the product holds up in-play. A big free bet doesn't save a book with weak odds, which is why offer size alone doesn't set the order.
If you only read one line: for a first UK account I'd open Betfair, then add Betfred as a second account for the acca tokens. If you never bet accas, swap Betfred for William Hill.
1. Betfair: best football exchange pricing
The Betfair welcome offer gets you going, but the reason Betfair sits at the top is what you do with the account once the free bets are gone (Betfair review). The exchange lets you take or offer prices against other punters rather than a bookmaker, and on the high-liquidity Premier League markets the difference is rarely theoretical.
I tracked the match-odds price on Arsenal to beat Everton across the last weekend before publishing. The exchange back price peaked at 1.33 about 45 minutes before kick-off.
The sharpest fixed-odds book I monitor out of the other ten on this list showed 1.28 at the same moment. On a £50 stake that's £2.50 of extra return, and the pattern held on most top-flight games I sampled.
Where the exchange struggles is the lower divisions. In League One and below the liquidity thins out fast, and you'll often find better prices on a traditional book.
Why Betfair ranks first
- Largest sports betting exchange in the UK, with the fairest football odds on this list
- £50 welcome offer with 30-day validity
- Bet builder free bets ideal for Premier League and Champions League betting
- Limitation: exchange liquidity drops sharply below the Championship; for League One and National League you're often better off elsewhere.
- Live streaming on select football fixtures, including European club matches (best sports live streaming sites)
- Strong outright markets for the World Cup on the exchange
Limitation: liquidity drops sharply below the Championship, so for League One and the National League you're often better off elsewhere.
2. Betfred: the best football acca specialist
:quality(65)/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.footballgroundguide.com%2Fmain%2F2023%2F08%2FBetfred-UK.jpg)
Betfred is one of the best football betting sites for new UK customers this July, matching Betfair's £50 headline figure. The structure is worth noting: you receive £30 in standard sports free bets and £20 specifically for accumulators, ideal for splitting the free bets across a Premier League weekend. Check the Betfred sign up offer article for details.
Pick Your Punt is the standout ongoing feature, letting you build a bet to your own terms. Betfred covers more than 40 global leagues, and a single Premier League fixture typically carries over 100 markets, including player shots, cards, corners, and detailed in-play options.
Betfred opened its first shop in 1967, a year after England's World Cup triumph at Wembley, and has been one of the most football-focused bookmakers in Britain ever since.
Why Betfred ranks as one of the best
- £50 welcome offer split across sports and acca free bets
- Pick Your Punt for custom football wagers
- 40+ global leagues covered
- 100+ markets per Premier League fixture
- Dedicated acca promotions throughout the season
- Regular odds boosts on international fixtures
3. Betnero: newest UK arrival, built for football bet builders
/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.footballgroundguide.com%2Fmain%2F2026%2F04%2Fimage-1.png)
Betnero is a new UK bookmaker. Italian-rooted, run by Anakatech Interactive Limited under UKGC licence 48789, live for UK customers since March 2025. The £10 free bet headlines below the top tier on raw value, but the structure is the reason it lands at three.
The qualifying bet has to be an acca or bet builder at minimum 6/4 (2.5), and the free bet itself follows the same shape: 2+ leg acca or bet builder at the same minimum odds. People building 4- and 5-fold weekend cards across the Premier League and Championship, only with a smaller, cleaner offer and no Bet Credits gimmick on the back end.
The product is mobile-first by design. There's no native app; the site runs as a progressive web app through iOS and Android browsers, and the in-play interface is one of the slicker ones we've used at this price point.
Football market depth runs deeper than the welcome offer suggests, with hundreds of markets on top Premier League and Champions League fixtures and live streaming on selected European club games when you're logged in. Outright pricing on the 2026 World Cup is already live and competitive. See our full World Cup betting guide.
The trade-offs are real: customer support is email-only (no live chat) and UK horse racing coverage thins out on midweek cards (international racing from South Africa, Italy and the US is unusually well stocked, but that's a different audience).
Why Betnero ranks third
- New UKGC-licensed brand (#48789), UK live March 2025, no legacy product debt
- Welcome offer engineered around accas and bet builders at min 6/4 (2.5)
- 30+ sports plus 9 esports, with live streaming on selected football fixtures
- Mobile-first PWA, no app install needed, fast in-play interface
- Limitation: email support only, no live chat
- Limitation: UK horse racing coverage is patchy on midweek cards (international racing is the strength)
4. William Hill: sharpest price boosts on London derbies
The £30 William Hill sign up offer (3×£10 from a £10 qualifier) is a tier below the top two, but William Hill earns its place on pricing.
I log its daily price boosts every matchday, and on London-derby markets like Arsenal–Spurs and Chelsea–Arsenal the boosted prices beat the next-best book by 8 to 12%, roughly three weekends in four. Across a 28-market derby sample over three months, the boosts averaged 9.4% better than the best competing price (William hill sports review).
Outside the derbies the boosts look much closer to the field. The catch is deposits: the qualifying bet has to be funded by debit card or select bank transfers. Apple Pay, PayPal, Neosurf, Paysafe, NETELLER and Skrill are all excluded.
Best William Hill features
- £30 in free bets (3×£10 tokens) on a £10 qualifier at 1/2+.
- Epic Boost enhancements averaged +9.4% vs the best competing price on our London-derby sample (n=28 markets across three months).
- Live chat replied in under 3 minutes on six of our seven test contacts (last was 14 minutes, Saturday afternoon).
- Limitation: PayPal, Apple Pay, Skrill, NETELLER and Paysafe deposits do NOT qualify for the welcome offer.
- Limitation: Free bet tokens expire in 7 days.
Support is the real weak spot. William Hill leans on a chatbot and no longer offers phone or email for online customers, so getting a human can be complicated. There's also no partial cash-out, which puts it a step behind Bet365 for managing a live bet.
5. BetMGM: big offer, weak football odds, strong for darts and US sports
BetMGM has the biggest headline welcome offer after Betfair and Betfred, at £40 from a £10 qualifier. That's the good news. The problem, for a football-first punter, is the pricing: across 10 World Cup fixtures I priced on 19 June, BetMGM's average overround was 9.9%, ranging from 8.7% to 10.6%. Bet365 and Ladbrokes came in under 6% on the same games. That margin is the widest on this list.
So why include it? Because outside football it's a genuinely good book. BetMGM sponsors the PDC Premier League and prices darts as well as anyone in the UK, and its NBA and NFL coverage is deep. Odds boosts and the daily Golden Spin add a bit of value for existing customers. It's part of MGM Resorts International and licensed by the UKGC (number 39198, held by LeoVegas Gaming PLC), so the brand backing is solid. Full detail is in the BetMGM review.
Treat it as a value account for the £40 and a primary book for darts or US sports, rather than your best source of football prices. Payment options are limited to debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and bank transfer, and the desktop site was slow to load in testing at around 3 seconds. A Visa withdrawal cleared in about 4 hours, which is quick.
Why it ranks fifth:
- £40 welcome offer, the largest below the top two
- One of the best UK books for darts and US sports
- Regular odds and profit boosts, plus the daily Golden Spin
- Trustpilot 3.6/5 from 5,300+ reviews; apps rated 4.6/5 (iOS) and 4.4/5 (Android)
- Limitation: football odds were the widest-margin on this list in testing
- Limitation: narrow payment range and a slow desktop site
6. Coral: strong football app and ongoing value
:quality(65)/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.footballgroundguide.com%2Fmain%2F2025%2F10%2Fcoral-sports-betting-welcome-offer.jpg)
Coral's £30-for-£5 ratio is a 6× return on the qualifying stake, matched by Ladbrokes (same parent company, same structure) (Coral sign up offer). Tokens are 6×£5, which also gives the cleanest split: six separate single bets. The welcome offer is modest next to the top two, and the qualifying deposit excludes PayPal, Neteller, Skrill and Paysafecard.
Where Coral holds its own is day-to-day value beyond the sign-up bonus. The pricing is fair, with an average football margin around 5.84% in our checks (detailed in the Coral review), and the ongoing promotions carry real weight: the free-to-play Football Super Series and Racing Super Series, daily Smart Boosts, the guaranteed-prize Rewards Grabber, and the Coral Racing Club.
Rated 4.7/5 on iOS, Coral has one of the best football betting apps in the UK.
Best features of the Coral betting site
- Coral likes to pay credit bonuses to existing customers with no strings attached; you can use it for whatever bet you like and withdraw it
- Coral Racing Club caters exclusively to horse racing bettors; although other sites have similar avenues, Coral's is synonymous with their all-around quality sportsbook.
7. Ladbrokes: Best for in-play football betting, 2UP & daily boosts
Same as Coral, the Ladbrokes welcome offer is £30 from a £5 qualifier. Same parent company, same small print (Ladbrokes sports review). The £30 comes as 6 x £5, with four usable on any sport and two set aside for football bet builders.
What earns Ladbrokes its place is the existing-customer slate rather than the odds, which are competitive but not the longest (its football return-to-player runs around 94.5%). The Acca Insurance refunds your stake as a free bet if one leg of a five-fold or bigger accumulator lets you down, and the 2UP early payout settles selected football bets as winners once your team goes two goals ahead.
Add daily odds boosts and the free-to-play 1-2-FREE game, where three correct scorelines pays £100, and there's steady value for regulars. Streaming on Premier League, EFL and Champions League fixtures is roughly level with Bet365 at weekends and narrower midweek. The app is strong too, at 4.5/5 on iOS.
Ladbrokes top features
- One of the best football betting apps in the UK
- Acca insurance and in-play accumulator editing
- Live streaming on selected Premier League, EFL, and European fixtures
- On our test accas edited in-play, the swap processed nearly instantly
8. Bet365: fastest cash-out; sharpest football odds
The Bet365 sign up offer of £30 offer is middle of the pack, but the product picks up ground everywhere else (detailed in the Bet365 review). Two things stand out. First, cash-out speed: on a live Champions League fixture it settled in 0.4 seconds from tap to done, against 2.1 seconds at Unibet and 3.3 seconds at Bwin on the same bet at the same minute.
Two things stand out. First, cash-out speed: on a live Champions League fixture it settled in 0.4 seconds from tap to done, against 2.1 seconds at Unibet and 3.3 seconds at Bwin on the same bet at the same minute. If you've ever watched a goal go in while the cash-out button spins, that gap is the difference between a profit and a small loss.
Second, the pricing. In the same 10-fixture World Cup sample where BetMGM averaged 9.9%, Bet365 came in at 5.6%, the tightest margin of any book I priced. The two-goal early payout also triggers cleanly here; on three occasions this cycle I had an early payout credited before the opposing team pulled a goal back.
Two catches on the offer: the Bet Credits stake is not returned with winnings, and PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay don't count for the qualifying deposit unless you've completed ID verification first.
Pros of choosing Bet365
- Cash-out latency averaged 0.4s on our Champions League test vs 2.1s Unibet and 3.3s Bwin.
- Two-goal early payout triggers cleanly (3 of 3 in our test cycle) before opponents had a chance to respond.
- Welcome offer settles as Bet Credits within minutes of qualifier grading, no waiting window.
- Limitation: Bet Credits stake is NOT returned with winnings.
- Limitation: Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill deposits kill the welcome offer qualifier.
9. Unibet: Best all-around football market depth
Unibet is a solid all-rounder with an active community on the Unibet blog (Unibet bookmaker review for details). Its strength is breadth: I counted 312 markets on a Brentford–Bournemouth fixture, a typical lower-table game, against 276 at Bet365 and 241 at William Hill on the same match. Unibet TV streams more than 165,000 events a year, and the Bet Builder allows up to 12 selections with daily Uniboosts.
The odds are competitive, especially on Bet Builders and Nordic leagues like the Swedish Allsvenskan. It sits mid-table here more because the £30 Unibet sign up offer is middle of the pack, and because it has a documented habit of limiting the accounts of consistently winning punters. Payouts are fast whatever method you use, and the sports app is one of the smoother ones on the list.
Perks of signing up with Unibet
- Fast payouts, regardless of the deposit and withdrawal system you use
- Excellent reward scheme, bonuses, and promotions for existing customers
- The website is well-known for being smooth and slick, with very minimal, if any, latency issues
- Many online bettors often rate the mobile app experience as the high point of the service
- We counted 312 markets on a Brentford–Bournemouth fixture (a typical lower-table match). Bet365 showed 276 on the same match, William Hill 241
10. Bwin: Best for European in-play football coverage
:quality(65)/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.footballgroundguide.com%2Fmain%2F2025%2F12%2Fbwin-free-bet-offer-low-deposit.jpg)
The Bwin welcome offer of £20 in free bets for a £5 qualifying bet is the lowest-value sports betting deal on this list. A 4x return on your qualifying stake is reasonable in isolation, but compared to Betfair and Betfred at £50, it is hard to recommend Bwin as a primary account for UK football bettors.
The reason Bwin stays on this list is European football (Bwin review) and live betting. Bwin runs a proprietary platform with low latency, streams around 2,000 events a month, and has one feature the others here lack: Edit My Bet, which lets you rework a live in-play accumulator mid-match rather than watching a dead leg sink the whole slip.
The Acca Boost pays up to 70% in cash on winning multiples, American Football pricing is among the sharpest in the UK, and there's Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish racing. The main drawback is withdrawals: card payouts take 3 to 5 business days, though e-wallets clear within about 24 hours.
Why Bwin ranks 10th
- Strong La Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga market coverage
- Competitive odds on European club fixtures
- Well-designed, award-winning website and interface
- Limited welcome offer value compared to the rest of this list
- Serie A midweek fixture pricing ran 2-4% sharper than William Hill on the 18 games we sampled during the last international break
11. Planet Sport Bet: Limited football focus
:quality(65)/https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.footballgroundguide.com%2Fmain%2F2025%2F10%2Fplanet-sport-bet-new-customer-offer.jpg)
Planet Sport Bet sits bottom on the welcome offer, not the product. While the Planet Sport Bet promo code provides a “Bet £20 Get £10” bonus.
That said, the bookie itself isn't bad. Launched in 2021 by the Planet Sport media group (Football365, TEAMtalk) and UKGC-licensed, it prices football and UK racing competitively, and its standout is banking: a £1 minimum on both deposits and withdrawals, which suits casual punters and smaller bankrolls. Regulars get a weekly free bet club and acca boosts. The trade-offs are no live chat (email and social only), limited payment methods with no e-wallets, and live streaming restricted to UK and Irish racing.
Check our Planet Sport Bet review for more details.
Key football events to bet on this year
FIFA World Cup 2026 (June to July)
This is the biggest betting event of the year. The 2026 iteration is the first to feature 48 nations across 104 matches, hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico. England, Scotland, and Wales are all involved in qualification, with England currently among the tournament favourites alongside France, Brazil, Argentina, and Spain.
Outright winner, top goalscorer, group winners, and first-round exits are all popular betting markets. Betfair's exchange will offer the sharpest outright prices; Bet365 will have the widest streaming and in-play coverage. See the full list of the best FIFA World Cup betting sites for 2026.
Champions League
The Champions League is undoubtedly the world's most prestigious annual football competition. We're talking Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and many more. The top clubs in Europe clash throughout the season in simply mouth-watering fixtures that keep football fans on the edge of their seats.
Premier League
For British punters, this is the event to keep an eye on. It is the largest and most prestigious league of all, and with teams like Manchester City and Liverpool making headlines right now, it’s a great time to become familiar with the Premier League.
Games are played each season, from August to May, spanning 38 weeks.
FA Cup and EFL Cup
Both domestic cups are reaching their final stages. The FA Cup final at Wembley in May and the EFL Cup final are among the most bet domestic fixtures of the season outside the Premier League, with bookmakers typically running enhanced odds and free bet promotions around both.
How to choose the best UK football betting site for you
Three questions will narrow this list from nine down to one or two in under a minute.
1. Are you a singles bettor or an accumulator bettor?
If you mostly place single bets, your ranking looks like Betfair → William Hill → Bet365, driven by raw price on individual markets. If you mostly place accas, the ranking shifts to Betfred → Ladbrokes → Coral because of acca-specific free-bet structures and in-play edit tools.
2. Do you deposit with a debit card, or with Apple Pay / PayPal / e-wallet?
This question alone eliminates half the welcome offers. William Hill, Unibet and several others exclude PayPal, Apple Pay, Skrill and NETELLER from the qualifying deposit. If your default is Apple Pay, Betfair and Bet365 are the two operators that honour the offer without a payment-method trap.
3. How fast do you want the free bets released?
Betfair and Bet365 release tokens within minutes of qualifying. Betfred, William Hill and Coral release theirs between 4 and 12 hours later in our tests.
If you deposit on a Saturday morning to bet on the 12:30 kick-off, the delay matters. For a first UK account, go with Betfair, then Betfred as a second option to capture the acca tokens.
How we test UK football betting sites
I open every operator with a real account. Each one gets a live deposit of £10 to £20, and I bet with it across a World Cup match, a Premier League matchday plus a midweek round of EFL or European football before anything goes on the spreadsheet.
Per operator, every cycle, I log:
- How long the welcome offer took to settle after the qualifying bet graded
- The match-winner odds for three pre-selected fixtures, captured at the same minute across all books
- Cash-out latency during live play, timed with a stopwatch
- Which deposit methods actually qualify for the welcome offer, and which quietly kill it
- Any app crashes across the session
- Withdrawal time, from request to money hitting the original funding method
It's a rolling quarterly update. An operator that slips on any of those metrics drops down the list.
Responsible gambling
Betting should be entertainment, not a way to make money, and never something you chase. Set a deposit limit before you start, and if it stops being fun, stop.
Free, confidential support is available 24/7 from BeGambleAware.org and GamCare on 0808 8020 133. If you want to block yourself from all UK-licensed gambling sites, GamStop lets you self-exclude across the board. Every operator on this list also offers deposit, loss and session limits, reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion inside the account settings.
Frequently asked questions
Betfair, for the fairest football odds on high-liquidity Premier League and Champions League markets once you’ve used the welcome offer. Betfred is the closest alternative and the better pick if you mainly bet accumulators.
In our July 2026 sample of 10 World Cup fixtures, Bet365 had the tightest average margin at 5.6%, with Ladbrokes just behind. The Betfair exchange also prices well on high-liquidity markets because you’re betting against other punters rather than a bookmaker.
It’s a strong all-round book, but football is not its best area. In testing its football margins were the widest on this list. The £40 welcome offer has value, and BetMGM is genuinely good for darts and US sports, so it works better as a value or secondary account than as your main source of football prices. Our full BetMGM review has the detail.
Can I use these welcome free bets on football?
Yes, every offer on this list can be used on football. The catch is the shape. Betfred sets aside £20 for 4+ selection accas, BetMGM requires 3/1+ bet builders for half of its £40, and Unibet’s whole £30 must go on bet builders or accas of four-plus selections. Betfair, William Hill, Coral, Bet365 and Bwin are the most flexible.
Betfair and Bet365 honour their offers on Apple Pay. Several books, including William Hill and Unibet, exclude PayPal, Apple Pay and various e-wallets from the qualifying deposit, so check the footnote before you fund the account.
Yes. Every operator listed holds a UK Gambling Commission licence. You must be 18 or over to open an account and bet.
