Italian football is widely known for its ultra culture with most professional football teams in the country having at least one designated section inside their stadiums for their loudest and most passionate fans.
While the majority of football ultra groups in Italy sit on the right of the political spectrum, Atalanta ultras have always historically been left-leaning. Naturally, this has resulted in heavy conflict over the years with rival groups but it's a stance they are proud of.
For all the key information on Atalanta ultras, our guide below has you covered.

Who are the Atalanta ultras?
There have been several iterations of Atalanta Ultras over the years but the first group was formed in 1976. This group was known as the Brigate Neroazzure (Black and Blue Brigade) and were proud of their left-wing political mindset, frequently displaying banners of Che Guevera in their stadium.
Over the years, the Brigate Neroazzure and the subgroups that developed from within became known for being a fierce set of ultras. They were loud in the stands and typically game for conflict with other supporters, and were renowned for using only fists and boots, refusing to get embroiled with weapons.
Currently, the largest group of ultras within the Atalanta fanbase are the Curva Nord 1907. This group are named after the stand they are based in the Gewiss Stadium and are apolitical, indicating a shift from the left-wing culture that has always been associated with Atalanta ultras in years gone by.
There are still a small group of left-wing Atalanta ultras known as ‘Forever Atalanta' and they reside in the Curva Sud opposite the Curva Nord 1907.

Who are the Curva Nord 1907?
As alluded to above, Curva Nord 1907 are currently the biggest and most influential Atalanta ultras group currently active at the Gewiss Stadium.
Widely regarded as one of the most violent ultras groups in Italian football, Curba Nord 1907 are frequently seen brandishing an array of pyrotechnics including fireworks and flares.
They are a powerful unit and were formed in the early 2000s when various members of now-disbanded groups came together under the leadership of Claudio Gallamberti.
Previously adopting a leftist ideology, Curva Nord 1907 are now apolitical and describes themselves as hating “everybody”.
Who are Forever Atalanta?
Their main rivals at the Gewiss Stadium, albeit of far less influence and size than themselves, is Forever Atalanta ultras group. As outlined above, they are situated opposite Curva Nord 1907 in the Curva Sud and still adopt the traditional Atalanta left-wing ideology.
Somewhat of a rivalry has been formed between the two groups ever since Forever Atalanta's parent groups – BNA – resisted calls to unite with the other allegiances that formed the original Curva Nord 1907.
BNA was eventually disbanded as a result of internal conflict, and those who remained loyal to its ideologies and beliefs formed Forever Atalanta in its place.
Atalanta ultras motto
Atalanta ultras have quite a famous motto that they live by – ‘Ci stanno sul cazzo tutti'. Translated, this simply means ‘we hate everybody' which perhaps stems from the fact that the vast majority of other ultra groups in Italy sit on the right of the political spectrum.
Naturally, this has resulted in heated rivalries with other ultra firms over the years and perhaps the persistent violence is why they have become apolitical in recent times.
Atalanta ultras incidents
As mentioned, Atalanta supporters are very passionate in their anti-knife rhetoric. In 1995, they came to the aid of Genoa after one of their fans was stabbed by AC Milan ultras. They issued as statement that translated to ‘cut out the knives, cut out the infamy'.
Sadly, their war on knife crime hit close to home in 2006 when three Atalanta fans were stabbed by Roma fans. This has intensified the rivalry between Atalanta and Roma, particularly within the fanbases.
The most iconic incident involving Atalanta ultras came in 2013 during the annual ‘La Festa Della Dea'. The festival is organised each summer by the Curva Nord 1907 and is effectively just several days of celebrating Atalanta and everything about the football club before the season begins.
In 2013, new signing Giulu Migliaccio rode along the streets of Bergamo alongside Atalanta ultras on the back of an Atalanta-branded tank. The tank was then driven over two cars – one painted in the colours of Brescia and the other painted in the colours of Roma.
