Amsterdam is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe and while its popularity is often put down to certain pastimes, it is a beautiful city enriched with culture. In addition to its history, museums, and bridges, Amsterdam is home to Ajax, one of the biggest football clubs in the world.
For football fans visiting the city, an Ajax stadium tour should be right at the top of your bucket list. The Johan Cruyff Arena is not far from the city centre, too, which makes it easily accessible for anyone spending a weekend in the city.

How to get to The Johan Cruyff Arena
The easiest way to get to The Johan Cruyff Arena is via public transport. The quickest method is to get on a train from Amsterdam Central Station to Bijlmer ArenaA which is situated next door to the stadium.
Alternatively, fans can take advantage of the metro system that runs through the entire city, negating the need to start from Amsterdam Central Station. Fans need to board Metro 54 from the city centre and get off at either Baijlmer ArenA or Strandvliet/ArenA.
Driving from the city centre is less straightforward due to city centre traffic but there are plenty of car parks at the stadium which are never full on a matchday should this be your preferred route. Sat Nav postcode for the stadium: 1101 AX
What is there to see on the Ajax stadium tour?
Classic stadium tour
The classic stadium tour at the Johan Cruyff Arena allows fans to take a look around the stadium at their own pace without a tour guide. Fans must follow a certain route and are expected to be finished within 60 minutes but they do still get to see the same things that guests on a guided tour do.
Highlights include:
- The home and away dressing rooms.
- The mixed zone.
- The players tunnel.
- A pitchside view of the arena.
- The manager's dugout.
- The Ajax Gallery of Fame.
Guided stadium tour
Guests on the guided tour get to see the same highlights listed above, except they also receive a tour guide who tells them more about each place they visit. This ensures that fans on this tour enjoy a richer experience and come away with new knowledge about the club and the stadium. These tours usually last around 75 minutes.
VIP stadium tour
VIP stadium tours at The Johan Cruyff Arena go beyond what fans get to experience on the other two tours. In addition to getting a tour of all the previously listed areas, fans get to visit the luxurious VIP areas of the stadium, including the boardroom, the skybox and the Royal Lodge.
Fans are given a complimentary drink to enjoy in the skybox and they also walk away with an exclusive Johan Cruyff Arena scarf as a souvenir from their day. These tours typically last around two hours.
