Allianz Arena undergoing two major transformations before 2026-27 Bundesliga season

The 2026-27 season is fast approaching, albeit a week later than most of Europe's other big five leagues, with the Allianz Arena undergoing work.

The work on the stadium is due to be completed by August 28, while the club museum is also undergoing a transformation.

New pitch installed ahead of NFL clash

As is customary ahead of a new season, Bayern Munich are replacing the pitch at the Allianz Arena, with the Bundesliga giants once again opting for a premium option by bringing the new turf over from Milan.

Around 8,400 square metres of rolled turf has been delivered from Italy in approximately 600 individual rolls, with each one measuring around 1.2 metres wide and 12 metres long and weighing approximately 800 kilograms.

That amounts to almost 480 tonnes of turf in total, with installation expected to take just three days and the new surface due to be ready for Bayern's final pre-season match against RB Leipzig on August 15.

Bayern will be hoping the pitch can hold up until November, when the Allianz Arena will host an NFL game between the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions.

It will be the third time American football has been played at the stadium, following previous games in 2022 and 2024.

The Bayern museum is also undergoing significant changes, having been under renovation since April despite reopening in May.

The work will see the museum make better use of its existing space, while updated exhibitions will feature new video material.

One of the main attractions will be a completely renovated Hall of Fame, which will focus not only on Bayern but also their rivals.

There will also be a dedicated area for primary school pupils, where they will be taught about the values associated with the club, which places significant importance on its social mission.
