Basque police step in to prevent major violence between Real Sociedad and PSG fans

The Ertzaintza, the Basque police force, have released a video of confiscated items from groups of Real Sociedad and PSG fans.

Real Sociedad and PSG play in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 tonight.

“Special operation” – Basque police confiscate dangerous items

Basque police underwent a special operation from Monday until Tuesday morning to confiscate dangerous items from both sets of supporters.

In the video above, 15 golf clubs, 3 pickaxes, flares, knives, screwdrivers, gloves, balaclavas, and metal bars were discovered by the police during their search.

PSG ultras were found on a bus in the Behobia area, yielding some of these items. The Ertzaintza detained them and sent them back to France, meaning they will not be present for tonight’s match.

Vehicle searches leads to arrests

According to reports from local media, 50 Real Sociedad fans and over 100 PSG supporters were arrested.

The bus in the Behobia area holding PSG ultras was one of 20 vehicles searched by the Ertzaintza.
