Real Betis vs Osasuna tops European attendance charts ahead of Liverpool vs Man City

Real Betis vs Osasuna attracted the biggest crowd of the day, with 65,484 spectators watching the hosts claim a chaotic 5-2 LaLiga victory at Estadio La Cartuja.

The Seville crowd was 5,146 higher than the gate at Anfield for Liverpool vs Manchester City, a reminder that this was no routine league fixture.

Isco scored twice as Betis recovered their composure after Osasuna's quickfire response threatened to turn a comfortable afternoon into a nervy finish. Debutant Morante then put the result beyond doubt with a stoppage-time strike.

The attendance was particularly notable given that Real Betis are currently playing home matches at La Cartuja while their traditional home, Estadio Benito Villamarin, undergoes a major redevelopment project scheduled to continue until August 2027.

With La Cartuja's expanded capacity listed at 70,000, Sunday's attendance still filled more than 93% of the stadium.

Anfield welcomed 60,338 for City's 3-0 win, but Liverpool's home ground is officially rated at 61,276, leaving little room for a bigger recorded crowd.

The fixture also produced one of the day's most notable fan moments, as Liverpool supporters greeted City with boos, chants accusing them of cheating and banners referencing the Premier League financial-rule case.

Germany contributed two major gates, including 58,018 at Hertha Berlin's Olympiastadion for a second-tier meeting with Greuther Furth. FC Koln's Rhine derby against Borussia Monchengladbach at RhineEnergieStadion was officially sold out at 50,000, with around 5,000 away fans making the trip to Cologne.

Southampton vs Portsmouth was another notable fixture, with 30,735 at St Mary's Stadium to see Saints win 1-0 despite Cameron Bragg's red card.

The derby also brought troubling scenes afterwards, as some supporters reportedly pulled down segregation fencing, one police officer suffered a minor injury and four people were arrested during the wider policing operation.
