Elland Road's history and redevelopment numbers

The stadium has undergone numerous renovations and expansions, including major projects in 1957, 1971, 1994 and 1998-2000. The East Stand opened in 1993 and was reportedly the world's largest cantilever stand at the time.

The latest redevelopment plans will increase capacity from 37,645 to approximately 53,000, adding around 15,000 seats through improvements to the West and North Stands and changes to the South Stand.

Planning permission was granted in January 2026, with initial construction work beginning in June.

The stadium is intended to remain operational throughout the expansion, which will also improve hospitality facilities, sightlines and supporter amenities.

Around 30,000 square feet of hospitality and corporate space has been refurbished, while a temporary 20,000-square-foot venue accommodates approximately 1,000 guests across four suites.
