When Nottingham Forest paid £35m for Elliot Anderson in 2024, the club were widely criticised for supposedly overpaying for the midfielder.

However, 18 months later, the player is being linked with a £100m move away from the City Ground to some of the biggest football clubs on the planet.

His form for Nottingham Forest has been simply sensational, and it has seen him very quickly become a key cog in Thomas Tuchel's England midfield.

Naturally, this form has also seen the Nottingham Forest faithful fall in love with the player and give him his very own Forest chant.

For all the key information on the chant, including the lyrics and what the player himself thinks about it, keep reading.

Elliot Anderson chant, lyrics and tune

The Elliot Anderson chant is sung to the tune of ‘Do the Conga' by Black Lace. It's the same tune that Liverpool fans use for their Hugo Ekitike chant. The lyrics are simply as follows:

Du du du, Geordie Maradona,

Du du du, Geordie Maradona,

Du du du, Geordie Maradona,

Although it is Nottingham Forest fans who are currently singing the chant, they would be shameless to try and claim that it was them who created it.

The chant can be traced back to Anderson's loan spell at Bristol City in 2022. The club's supporters took to Anderson quickly and were the ones who created the chant. It then followed him to Newcastle when he broke into the first team, and now once again at Nottingham Forest.

The player himself isn't complaining, though. In an interview in 2025, Anderson said:

“The chant has followed me around a bit! It’s nice to hear it being chanted by the fans – it gives you a boost on the pitch. It always helps, knowing people are behind you.”

FGG says: A tongue-in-cheek chant that has become closer to reality

No, Elliot Anderson isn't Diego Maradona, but there is no doubt that he has improved considerably since this song was first created as a tongue-in-cheek football chant by Bristol City fans. Not many players are tipped for a £100m transfer, which is evidence of how far he has come in such a short span of time.
