Celtic's Europa League campaign was at risk of ending in the league phase this season, but after a 4-2 victory over Utrecht on the final gameweek, the Bhoys have made it to the playoff round.

Their reward for that victory is a tie with Stuttgart for a place in the Round of 16. The first leg will take place on Thursday, 19 February at Celtic Park, with the second leg in Germany taking place a week later.

Given the importance of the fixture, it is anticipated that thousands of Celtic fans will make the trip over to Stuttgart for the second leg, but what is the best way to get there from Scotland?

How can Celtic fans travel to Stuttgart?

Direct to Stuttgart?

There are no direct flights from any Scottish airport to Stuttgart, so Celtic fans will have to make at least one connecting flight if they want to end up at Stuttgart International Airport. The best option in this regard is to fly to London Heathrow on Wednesday, 25 February, before catching a direct flight from there that same evening.

There are other options that day, including getting a connection in Amsterdam, but the connection in London is by far the cheapest option. Of course, Celtic fans could even drive down to London instead of flying if they so wish.

Fly to a nearby airport

One option that could appeal is to fly to a neighbouring airport in Germany and then get a train over to Stuttgart. The best option here is to fly to Frankfurt, as there are multiple UK airports that fly directly here, and the train journey from Frankfurt to Stuttgart only takes 70 minutes.

There is a direct flight from Glasgow to Frankfurt in the afternoon on Wednesday, 25 February, which lands in Frankfurt at 15:50. This would give ample time to get on a train to Stuttgart, either that same day or the following morning on matchday.

Can you drive from Glasgow to Stuttgart?

For supporters who don't like flying, there is the option of driving from Glasgow to Stuttgart. Now, this is going to take 16 hours, and that is if you drive straight there without any breaks, so realistically, you probably need to factor in a day and a half of travel time if this is the way you want to go.

One other interesting option is to take the train. You can get to Stuttgart from Glasgow with just two changes – one in London and one in Brussels. The total travel time is just over 10 hours, which isn't as long as you might imagine.

FGG says: Go via Frankfurt

The journey via Frankfurt seems the most appealing to me. Not only is Frankfurt just a short train journey away from Stuttgart, but it is also one of the best cities in Germany. My advice would be to stay over in Frankfurt on the Wednesday night and make your way over to Stuttgart the following morning. This way, you get to sample two German cities and won't feel like you're rushing.
