Leeds United have been warned they may need to increase ticket prices to help fund their ongoing redevelopment of Elland Road.

Former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness believes supporters could accept modest rises, but has cautioned against introducing controversial dynamic pricing.

Leeds may have to increase ticket prices to help fund Elland Road expansion

Leeds are working towards expanding Elland Road to a capacity of 55,000, with redevelopment work already underway.

However, the scale of the £200m project means the club must consider how to finance the improvements without alienating its existing fanbase.

Wyness, who led Aston Villa between 2016 and 2018, believes Leeds must carefully balance the financial demands of the expansion with the expectations of supporters.

He suggested that higher prices for new seats and expanded hospitality facilities could help cover the costs, while existing season-ticket holders should be rewarded for their loyalty.

“If they can show that the greater burden is coming on the newcomers and on the hospitality expansion, that makes sense, and I think the public will buy that,” Wyness said.

He added that fans could accept a percentage increase in ticket prices, provided the club demonstrated that loyal supporters were receiving genuine benefits.

The debate comes after Villa themselves faced criticism over tickets costing as much as £99 for Champions League home matches.

Wyness urged Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe to approach the issue carefully, arguing that the club must understand how supporters would react before introducing changes.

FGG says: Leeds must protect supporters while funding Elland Road plans

Leeds' expansion could provide significant long-term benefits, but finding the money to deliver it without pricing out existing supporters will be a major challenge.

The club must show that supporters will benefit from the redevelopment, rather than simply shoulder its financial burden.

A transparent pricing strategy that rewards loyalty could help Leeds balance their ambitions with the expectations of the Elland Road faithful.
