Major home development proposed near West Ham’s London Stadium in new Stratford plans

A major new development could transform the area around West Ham United's London Stadium, with plans submitted for almost 800 homes just a short distance from the ground.

The project would add thousands of new residents alongside further shops, hospitality and entertainment facilities at Stratford Cross.

According to the Evening Standard, property developer Lendlease has submitted plans to Newham Council for 782 homes across six towers on a currently vacant plot at Westfield Avenue, adjoining Redman Place.

The homes could be a mix of student accommodation and shared living spaces, with the development forming the latest addition to Stratford Cross.

The wider area already includes offices, businesses and institutions including V&A East, BBC Music Studios and University of the Arts London.

Lendlease had originally planned to use the site for commercial development but says the challenging office market has prompted a rethink. The developer already has permission for two residential buildings elsewhere within the site.

If approved, the new homes would be around 600 metres from London Stadium and could also include a pub, takeaway and either a live music venue or cinema.

The application comes as London Stadium bosses seek permission to increase non-sporting events from 10 to 24 per year, alongside changes to permitted noise levels.

Lendlease says it has carried out noise measurements to inform its sound insulation plans, although the assessment covered West Ham matchdays rather than concerts.
