Man City set new Etihad Stadium attendance record in Coventry Premier League victory

Manchester City have set a new attendance record at the Etihad Stadium after 60,765 fans turned up to watch the Cityzens face Coventry City on Saturday afternoon.

Following the opening of the expanded North Stand at the end of last season, this is the third consecutive home game that City have broken their previous record, and there is still some minor wiggle room for another record in the near future.

The new attendance of 60,765 means that City are already justifying their expansion, despite fans of rival clubs still taunting the club over empty seats.

In the three home matches the club have played since the stadium's capacity was raised to 61,038, the club have sold more than 60,000 tickets in each. The club's top four attendances in the history of the Etihad Stadium are as follows:

Although City are now setting attendance records on a weekly basis, they still have a way to go before they break the club's all-time attendance record.

Back in March 1934, an attendance of 84,569 was recorded at Maine Road when the ground was made up of paddocks and terraces. Prior to the expansion, the last time that City had recorded an attendance of more than 60,000 was back in 1971, when 63,326 fans attended a Manchester derby at Maine Road.

The next Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium is scheduled for March 2027, and it would be no shock if that is the date City break the 61,000 barrier.
