Man City undergo new Etihad Stadium overhaul in time for new Premier League season

Manchester City's Etihad Stadium has undergone a full turnstile and access overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Electro Automation were appointed to manufacture and deliver the access infrastructure needed to support operations at one of the busiest football venues in England.

Etihad Stadium undergoes comprehensive access overhaul

Ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 season, Manchester City's Etihad Stadium required an overhaul of its access system that would be capable of supporting one of England's busiest football venues.

The work was part of the club's ongoing investment of its facilities at the Etihad Stadium, with the project designed to deliver a robust and reliable entrance solution that would support long-term operations at the venue.

Manchester City appointed Electro Automation to deliver the new access system, which was also required to meet several FA and club guidelines and requirements.

Full-height and half-height turnstiles were installed throughout the stadium, all meeting FA Specification Grade H requirements, which are able to handle the high volumes of attendance on Premier League matchdays – with the Etihad boasting a capacity of around 41,000.

In addition, the new system has been constructed to integrate with existing ticketing infrastructure and provide real-time monitoring of crowd flow, while DDA-compliant disabled access gates were also installed.

Although the work may seem unexciting for supporters, Manchester City fans will be pleased to know that the overhauled access system should mean that entering and exiting the Etihad Stadium on matchdays, or any other events, is far quicker and easier.
