Manchester United have given supporters a behind-the-scenes look at the biggest Old Trafford pitch renovation in more than a decade.

New footage showcases the extensive work taking place this summer as the club prepares the famous surface for the 2026/27 campaign.

The Red Devils have released time-lapse footage documenting the complete renovation of the Old Trafford pitch, with the surface being dug up and rebuilt for the first time in 14 years.

The behind-the-scenes video shows specialist machinery removing the existing playing surface before heavy equipment cultivates, levels and prepares the foundations for a brand-new hybrid pitch.

United say the work is aimed at improving both player welfare and drainage, with the new surface made up of 96% natural grass reinforced by 4% artificial fibres for greater durability.

The project also includes extending the grass slightly beyond the playing area and adding extra protection around the brickwork surrounding Old Trafford's distinctive pitch drop-off.

The slope has previously been criticised after contributing to injuries, most recently when Benjamin Sesko aggravated a shin problem after colliding with the perimeter during last season's win over Liverpool.

United have worked alongside specialist contractor Fineturf throughout the renovation, with the removed material being recycled and reused within the industry.

The club has confirmed this is expected to be the final full pitch rebuild at Old Trafford before the proposed move into a new stadium in the coming years.

The footage highlights the scale of the work taking place behind the scenes.

After 14 years, a full rebuild was overdue, and the added focus on drainage and player safety should provide a better playing surface ahead of the new season.
