New Wrexham drone footage reveals big step forward in Kop Stand expansion

New drone footage from the Racecourse Ground has revealed another major step forward in the construction of Wrexham's new Kop Stand, with cranes positioned for a significant roof installation.

The latest footage, posted by YouTube channel Britain From Above on Thursday, September 3, was filmed early in the morning as work continued on the £70m redevelopment.

The footage shows two large cranes in position at the Kop, with the construction team preparing for what was described as the “big lift”. A further rectangular roof support section, which had been installed the previous day, was also visible resting on the orange steel supports.

The development comes just days after aerial footage showed further roof-truss sections being lifted into position, underlining how quickly the upper structure is now taking shape.

Two cranes prepare for major Kop Stand lift

The Britain From Above footage provides a clear look at the scale of the operation taking place at the Racecourse.

The drone operator noted that the two cranes were already set up on either side of the stand, although their booms had not yet been raised and the roof sections had not been strapped into position at the time of filming.

“This is Thursday the 3rd of September. We're all anticipating the big lift today,” the narrator said at the beginning of the update.

The footage also shows how much the stand has changed in recent days, with upright steel sections already installed and the roof structure beginning to emerge above the main frame.

A rectangular roof support piece installed on Wednesday was also clearly visible, sitting on the orange steelwork as the site prepared for the next phase.

By the time of the footage, much of the new terracing was already in place, while concrete work around the concourse was understood to be roughly halfway complete.

Wrexham Kop moves towards major structural milestone

The latest activity represents another important stage in the transformation of the Racecourse Ground, with the roof structure now becoming one of the most visible features of the redevelopment.

The new Kop was originally planned as a 5,500-seat stand, although Wrexham have since submitted plans to increase its capacity to 7,500. If approved, the change would take the overall stadium capacity to just over 18,000.

The redevelopment is also expected to restore the Racecourse's four-sided appearance after decades with an open end at the Kop.

The stand is currently scheduled to be fully operational for the start of the 2027-28 season, giving Wrexham supporters another major milestone to watch as the roof and remaining structural elements are installed.
