Senne Lammens may have only played one match for Manchester United so far, but the young Belgian goalkeeper was so impressive on debut that the Stetford End have already created him a song.

While the Senne Lammens chant may evolve over time to something more substantial, for now the Old Trafford faithful at least have something to show their appreciation for their new man between the sticks.

Senne Lammens' chant lyrics and tune

The Senne Lammens chant is sung to the tune of the classic 1800s folk song ‘Oh Susanna' by Stephen Foster. The tune has been used for several common football chants over the years. The lyrics to the Senne Lammens chant are simply:

Are you Schmeichel,

Are you Schmeichel,

Are you Schmeichel in disguise?

Are you Schmeichel in disguise?

Senne Lammens background

The context behind the Senne Lammens is quite amusing in that it was created in the backdrop of a goalkeeping performance that the Old Trafford crowd hadn't seen for over a decade. While David de Gea was an excellent shot stopper in his prime, the Spaniard was never the type to come off his line and claim difficult crosses.

Lammens, however, did exactly that throughout the 90 minutes on debut, prompting loud cheers every time he did so. Soon after, the Stretford End began singing the Senne Lammens chant.

FGG says: Could it come back to haunt the Reds?

While Manchester United fans aren't seriously calling Lammens the new Schmeichel, it's the type of chant that could come back to haunt them in a couple of months if Lammens begins to make errors, which is entirely possible given his age and inexperience at this level. On the flip side, if he builds on his promising start, this chant could evolve into something more.
