Before the ‘Superclásico’ match between River Plate and Boca Juniors, River Plate supporters produced a red and white coordinated tifo at their home stadium, El Monumental.

Red and white display by River Plate fans
El Monumental was a sellout for the ‘Superclasico’ on Sunday, September 25 with 84,000 fans in attendance. As a show of pre-match support, River Plate fans displayed ribbons in sections of red and white, covering the entire stadium.

As well as this, red and white smoke plumes were set off as the players walked out of the tunnel. Finally, red and white fireworks were set ablaze as the players warmed up, showcasing the fanatical passion of Argentinian supporters.
El Más Grande De La Historia
Shortly after the ribbon display, River Plate displayed a huge shirt that covered the length of the stand behind the goal.
At the bottom of the shirt, read: “El Más Gr4nde De La Historia.” The four placed in the word ‘Grande’ is a reference to River Plate’s four Copa Libertadores titles, while the message translates to “the largest in history”.
River Plate will be looking to win their fifth Copa Libertadores this season, and will be motivated to reach the final as it is taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on November 30, 2024.
Match result
The match finished 1-1 with a 70th minute equaliser from Boca’s Cristian Medina, breaking River Plate hearts. Pablo Solari opened the scoring in the 49th minute for Los Millonarios, however, it wasn’t enough to secure three points.
River Plate sit top of the Argentina Primera División after seven games, while Boca Juniors sit seventh as they have only won two matches this season.
Special mention – Legia Warsaw
Although River Plate’s ‘Superclásico’ tifo gained top spot, a special mention must go to Legia Warsaw’s pre-match tifo against Molde in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday, February 22.
Due to a clash with the police prior to their Conference League group stage match against AZ Alkmaar, Legia Warsaw were fined by UEFA and forced to close the Zyleta stand where their Ultras usually sit. Before the game against Molde, a banner in the empty Zyleta stand read: “This time you won, UEFA”.
However, in the main stand adjacent to the Ultras stand, a Lego man in sunglasses was depicted with the message “Surprise, Motherf***ers!” when the players lined up before the match.
After UEFA shut the stand which houses Legia Warsaw's ultras—for lighting fireworks & broadcasting “provocative message”—this was their response. 😆

The tifo was frequently circulated on social media, however, Legia could find themselves in further trouble from Europe’s main governing body due to the X-rated message revealed.
