Oliver Glasner received a mixed reception on his return to Crystal Palace, with supporters applauding their former manager while also taunting him during Nottingham Forest‘s visit.
The Austrian reflected fondly on his time at Selhurst Park, but Forest's collapse from an early lead gave Palace fans reason to turn up the pressure.
Oliver Glasner reacts to chants from Crystal Palace fans
Glasner was serenaded with chants of “You're getting sacked in the morning” during Forest's 3-1 defeat at Selhurst Park, in a fixture that carried plenty of emotion for the former Palace boss.
The taunts were largely good-natured, with some supporters also applauding Glasner before and after the match in recognition of his achievements during his time in south London.
Glasner guided Palace to the FA Cup and UEFA Conference League, and he was quick to thank the home crowd for their reception.
“I want to say a huge thank you to the Crystal Palace fans for this great reception,” he said.
“I didn't know what I can expect, but it just shows the wonderful memories we created together here.
“I don't look back very often in my life, but today it was a little bit when we were in the hotel.
“And then I thought it's amazing, in the last 16 months we won three trophies with Palace.”
The return was made more difficult by Forest's inability to capitalise on their opportunities.
Goalscorer Dan Ndoye, Daniel Munoz and Liam Delap all missed significant opportunities, while Morgan Gibbs-White struck the underside of the crossbar.
Palace ultimately took advantage of Forest's wastefulness to secure a comeback, leaving Glasner to reflect on a frustrating afternoon against his former club. He blamed “karma” for the outcome.
FGG says: Palace fans showed Glasner respect despite the brutal chants
Palace fans gave Glasner a warm reception before kick-off, reflecting the respect he still commands at Selhurst Park.
However, once the match began, that admiration gave way to the usual football banter, highlighting the complex relationship between the former manager and the supporters.
His achievements for the club have secured a lasting place in Palace folklore, but emotions can quickly shift during a competitive match.
For Forest, the result made the occasion even more frustrating, with missed chances ultimately proving costly.
