Manchester United supporters could be handed a surprisingly small allocation for their Champions League trip to Como, with fears growing that only around 600 travelling fans may be able to attend
The Red Devils are set to face the Italian side in the league phase of the competition after being drawn alongside them, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Roma, Sporting Lisbon, RB Leipzig, Villarreal and Sabah.
However, the trip to Italy could prove particularly difficult for United supporters because of the limited capacity at Como’s historic Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.
Clarity needed over match location
The match between Como and Manchester United has been pencilled in for Wednesday, 21 October, but there is still no confirmation as to whether the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia will be cleared to host UEFA matches.
The ground currently holds around 13,000 spectators and is undergoing a major renovation costing approximately £50 million as the club works to bring the stadium up to UEFA standards.
If the stadium receives the necessary approval, Manchester United could receive an away allocation of only about 600 tickets, according to reports. That figure would leave thousands of travelling supporters unable to attend the eagerly anticipated fixture.

There is, however, an alternative scenario. If UEFA decides that the Sinigaglia is not ready to host a Champions League fixture, Como could move the match to the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo. The venue has a capacity of more than 21,000 and could allow United to receive an allocation of roughly 1,100 tickets.
The potential relocation would come with its own drawback for supporters. Sassuolo is around 150 miles from Como, meaning fans would face a considerably longer journey than originally expected and miss out on visiting one of Europe's most stunning stadiums.

With Champions League fixtures now confirmed, UEFA will have to provide an answer, one way or the other, on where Como will play home matches during their debut campaign. If it is to be the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, only United fans with a strong history of attending European away matches will have a chance of securing tickets in the away end.
