Wrexham are set to extend the space around their new Kop Stand after securing approval from the local council for a wider public area at the Racecourse Ground.

The decision follows Wrexham's purchase of the additional land from the Welsh Government and comes as the club continues to redevelop its stadium plans to meet growing demand.

Wrexham continue Racecourse Ground redevelopment

The newly approved application focuses on land bordering Crispin Lane, with Wrexham looking to use the additional plots to make more space available to fans and connect the stadium more effectively with its surroundings.

The latest move is separate from the club's plans to enlarge the stand itself. Wrexham have also received approval to raise the Kop's planned capacity from 5,500 to 7,750, adding 2,250 seats to the original scheme.

When the replacement stand was first given planning permission in January 2023, Wrexham were competing in the National League.

However, promotions in 2023, 2024 and 2025 mean they are now in the Championship and their remarkable rise has increased the demands placed on the Racecourse Ground.

The land acquisition gives Wrexham more scope to plan the area surrounding the expanded stand and the club has held discussions with the Welsh Government and Wrexham University about obtaining even more nearby land.

The council's decision approves a change of use for the newly acquired land, but a final design for the public area has not been signed off.

Detailed plans for landscaping, layout and other improvements are due to be submitted separately under the conditions attached to the Kop development.

Planning consultants working on the application said the goal was to create a “well-defined, welcoming, safe and inclusive public realm”.

Chris Potts, planning director at Savills, said the new stand would have a “transformational effect” on both the club and the city.

FGG Says: Exciting times for Wrexham

Wrexham have been on an upward trajectory since getting taken over by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and the redevelopment of the Racecourse Ground is much needed.

It is a very exciting time to be a Wrexham supporter and it will be very interesting to visit the stadium once the work is complete.
