Wrexham have been handed a major boost to their stadium plans after permission was granted for thousands of additional seats in the new Kop Stand.

The approval will significantly increase the eventual capacity of the Racecourse Ground and help the club meet growing demand from supporters and international visitors.

Wrexham get Kop Stand capacity boost in latest update

Wrexham County Borough Council’s Planning Committee has approved plans for up to a further 2,250 seats in the new Kop Stand.

The additional seating will form part of a second tier, taking the stand’s potential capacity to 7,750 when combined with the 5,500 seats already approved earlier this year.

That would increase the overall capacity of the Racecourse Ground to just over 18,000, providing a substantial increase on the current stadium capacity.

Importantly, the extra seating can be delivered within the existing approved footprint of the Kop Stand, meaning the club does not need to expand the physical boundaries of the redevelopment.

Wrexham say the additional capacity will help future-proof the stadium, allowing it to potentially host international matches while protecting its status as the world's oldest international football stadium still in use.

The club also highlighted strong demand for home tickets and the number of international supporters travelling to Wrexham, with increased matchday crowds expected to provide further economic benefits for the local community.

As part of the application, Wrexham also submitted an updated Travel Plan.

This includes promoting public transport, working with bus operators and Transport for Wales, and continuing park-and-ride schemes alongside free matchday parking at Eagles Meadow.

FGG says: This is a major boost to Racecourse Ground expansion plans

This is a significant upgrade to what was already an ambitious Kop Stand project.

Adding another 2,250 seats without increasing the approved footprint gives Wrexham considerably more flexibility for the future.

The prospect of an 18,000-plus Racecourse Ground should also be welcomed by supporters, particularly given the extraordinary growth in demand around the club since the takeover.
