To say Rodri has been a key cog in the Man City wheel under Pep Guardiola would be an understatement. Since signing for the club in 2019, the Spaniard has gone to become the central hub of Guardiola's system at the Etihad Stadium to the point where City have looked like a completely different team when he's been injured.
While his main role is to get the Cityzens playing in the middle of the park, he has also popped up with some big goals during his time at the club, not least the winner in the 2023 Champions League final against Inter Milan.
He's also one of the most loved players among the Man City support, but have they created him a chant fitting of that status? Let's take a look.
Rodri chant, lyrics and tune
The Rodi chant is sung to the tune of ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)' by Shakira. It is the same tune that Arsenal fans use for their Kai Havertz chant. The lyrics are as follows:
Can we talk about Rodri?
Can we talk about Rodri?
Can we talk about Rodri?
He scored in Istanbul
Rodri chant background
The Rodri chant was first created shortly after Man City's triumph in Istanbul in 2023. The Spaniard scored the only goal in the Blues' win that night, to earn them their first-ever Champions League trophy.
In more recent times, the chant has been modified slightly to reflect Rodri's status as a Ballon d'Or winner. In this version of the Man City chant, the final is replaced with the lyrics ‘He's won the Ballon d'Or'.
The midfielder famously won the prestigious prize in 2024, becoming the first Man City player in history to be crowned the best footballer on the planet. As such, it's no surprise that City fans want to commemorate that achievement.

FGG says: A disappointing effort
While the tune is a good one for a football chant, Arsenal did far better with their Kai Havertz effort than Man City fans have here. The first three lines of ‘Can we talk about Rodri' are unnecessary, and there should be a way to mention the fact that he scored in Istanbul AND is a Ballon d'Or winner, not just one or the other.
