Barcelona submit surprise plans to build state-of-the-art indoor theme park inside new Camp Nou

Barcelona are planning to add an unusual new attraction to the redeveloped Camp Nou, with an indoor theme park set to become part of the stadium complex.

The ambitious commercial agreement is designed to bring another source of revenue to the Catalan giants beyond football matchdays.

Barcelona have reached an agreement with Babylon Park Spain SL for a concession to operate an indoor entertainment attraction within the Camp Nou complex for more than five years, according to reports in Spain.

The deal will need to be formally approved by club members at the General Assembly on September 19th before it can move forward, with further details expected to be presented during information sessions ahead of the vote.

Babylon Park operates indoor amusement venues internationally, including its Spanish attraction at Westfield Parquesur in Leganes, Madrid.

That site features an indoor roller coaster, free-fall tower, flying chairs and more than 100 arcade machines, alongside attractions aimed at younger children.

The Camp Nou project forms part of Barcelona's wider plan to maximise the commercial potential of their redeveloped stadium.

Rather than relying solely on matchday income, the club are looking to create more reasons for visitors to spend money at the venue throughout the year.

The agreement would give Babylon Park a presence inside one of the world's most recognisable football venues, while Barcelona would gain another potential revenue stream once the redeveloped Camp Nou is fully operational.

You can certainly say Barcelona are thinking outside the box with this one.

We've had golf courses and tennis courts inside a football stadium, but an indoor theme park is not exactly something you see every day, but the idea of making Camp Nou more commercially useful beyond football is understandable.

If the attraction can bring families and tourists into the stadium when Barcelona are not playing, it could become an interesting addition to the wider redevelopment.
