Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to retire from international football after the November 2026 international break brings an end to one of the greatest careers in the history of the Portuguese national team.
The 41-year-old leaves behind a remarkable record of 146 goals in 234 appearances, making him the leading scorer and most-capped player in men's international football.
Across 23 years, Ronaldo has found the net in some of Europe's most famous stadiums, from Estadio da Luz in Lisbon to the Allianz Arena in Munich.
However, one relatively understated venue in southern Portugal holds a particularly special place in his international career, with Ronaldo scoring more goals there than at any other stadium for his country.
Estadio Algarve: Ronaldo's most prolific Portugal stadium
Situated between Faro and Loule in southern Portugal, Estadio Algarve is the ground where Ronaldo has enjoyed his greatest international goalscoring success, finding the net 16 times for his country.
Opened in 2003 ahead of Euro 2004, the stadium has a seated capacity of 30,305 and was jointly developed by the municipalities of Faro and Loule.
Designed by Damon Lavelle of HOK Sport, it hosted three matches at the European Championship, including the quarter-final between the Netherlands and Sweden.
Despite not being Portugal's primary national stadium, Estadio Algarve became a familiar venue for the Selecao, hosting several qualifying fixtures and international friendlies over the years.
Ronaldo's goalscoring exploits there included a particularly memorable performance against Luxembourg in October 2021, when he registered a hat-trick during Portugal's 5-0 World Cup qualifying victory.
He also scored twice against the Republic of Ireland in September 2021, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner, as Portugal recovered from a late deficit to secure a 2-1 victory.
Those performances helped establish Estadio Algarve as the most productive venue of Ronaldo's international career.

Other Portuguese stadiums that featured in Ronaldo's international career
Although Estadio Algarve leads the way, Ronaldo has also enjoyed memorable moments at some of Portugal's most recognisable football grounds.
Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon holds particular significance, having been the stadium where Ronaldo first announced himself to a wider European audience with Sporting CP before his move to Manchester United in 2003.
The Sporting home also hosted several important Portugal appearances, including his brace against Switzerland in a 4-0 Nations League victory in June 2022.
Meanwhile, Estadio da Luz, home of Benfica, and Estadio do Dragao, home of Porto, have also provided stages for important moments in his international career.
The latter was particularly significant in Portugal's history, hosting the 2019 Nations League final, when the hosts defeated the Netherlands 1-0 to secure their first title in the competition.
