Crystal Palace supporters have criticised the club after a request regarding the pre-match atmosphere at Selhurst Park was rejected.

A fan group claims the decision risks diluting the traditional matchday environment at the stadium.

Crystal Palace fan group releases statement after Selhurst Park request rejected

The Holmesdale Fanatics have released a statement accusing Palace of “trying to force an American-style experience” on fans at Selhurst Park.

According to the group, they asked the club to turn down the volume of music played before matches so supporters could generate atmosphere during the warm-up.

The request was reportedly refused ahead of a recent European fixture due to “UEFA regulations”, and a follow-up request before the weekend's Premier League game against Leeds United was also declined.

The statement claims the loud pre-match music prevents fans from building the well-known Selhurst Park atmosphere that the club often promotes.

In the message shared online, the group said the decision showed the club was determined to keep pushing a sanitised matchday experience rather than listening to supporters who want to maintain the ground’s traditional feel.

The Holmesdale Fanatics have long been responsible for much of the organised support at Selhurst Park, producing flags, displays and chants designed to energise the crowd.

FGG says: Crystal Palace needs to listen to its loyal and passionate fanbase

This is not the first incident that has caused a fracture between the Eagles' faithful and the club, with supporters protesting against ticket prices and the managerial situation in recent months.

Now, this latest news adds another layer of conflict to the situation, so it's about time Palace listened to their loyal fanbase.

Clubs across football are increasingly trying to enhance the matchday “product” with entertainment, music and in-stadium production.

But the atmosphere inside Selhurst Park has always been driven by supporters themselves, not by speakers or pre-planned shows.

While clubs understandably want to modernise the fan experience, ignoring the views of the supporters who create the stadium atmosphere risks undermining the very identity that makes grounds like Selhurst Park special.
