Construction of Guyana's new national football stadium is set to begin on November 10 after the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) awarded a £421,000 contract for the first phase of the project.
Blue Water Shipping Stadium, which will be built at D'Urban Park in Georgetown, is expected to become the home of the country's senior men's and women's national teams.
B&J Civil Works awarded contract for first phase of Guyana stadium project
Local construction and engineering firm B&J Civil Works has secured the GYD$118m (£421,000) contract after being selected from six bidders in a tender process advertised on August 27.
The first phase will include general site development, two grassroots mini-pitches, spectator seating, floodlighting, dressing rooms, washroom facilities, perimeter fencing, a security station and improvements to the stadium's entrance and access routes.
The mini-pitches will support the FIFA Football for Schools programme, while FIFA and Concacaf are providing technical support and oversight to help ensure the facility meets the requirements for hosting international matches.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to accommodate approximately 10,400 spectators and serve as the home of the Golden Jaguars and Lady Jags.
It will also host GFF Elite League fixtures, national team activities, concerts, exhibitions and other public events.
Plans were first announced in December 2023, with a groundbreaking ceremony held in October 2024 with the project backed by transport and logistics company Blue Water Shipping.
GFF president Wayne Forde described the development as one of the federation's most ambitious infrastructure investments, highlighting its potential to support football and help establish Guyana as a regional hub for sports tourism.
FGG Says: A major step forward for Guyanese football
The stadium represents a significant investment in Guyana's football infrastructure, providing the national teams with a dedicated home while creating more opportunities for the game to develop at grassroots level.
Its potential to host international matches and other events could also raise the country's profile, making the start of construction an important milestone for the GFF.
