Jose Mourinho received a hero's welcome from AS Roma supporters as he returned to the Stadio Olimpico with Real Madrid for their Champions League clash.
The Portuguese coach was honoured with a spectacular tifo celebrating his lasting legacy in the Italian capital.
Jose Mourinho honoured on Stadio Olimpico return
Mourinho was greeted with loud applause when his name was announced before kick-off, with Roma supporters making their feelings clear before the Champions League contest had even begun.
Early in the first half, the club's hardcore ultras unveiled three enormous banners featuring images of the former manager, including one depicting him holding the Europa Conference League trophy Roma won in 2022.
The triumph was Roma's first significant European trophy and came at the end of Mourinho's first season in charge.
He also guided the Italian side to the Europa League final in 2023 before leaving in January 2024 without a proper farewell.
One of the banners carried a powerful message: “For the world, he's special. For Roma, he's immortal. Hail Mourinho.”
The tribute underlined the affection that remains for Mourinho, who brought European silverware to the club and helped create memories that supporters clearly have not forgotten.

The word “immortal” says it all, and despite whatever happened at the end of his tenure, his place in Roma's modern history is secure.
