Leeds United's plans to expand Elland Road could receive an unexpected boost after a major change at the top of 49ers Enterprises.

Whites chairman Paraag Marathe is set to devote his full attention to football operations after stepping back from one of his long-standing NFL roles.

Marathe has stepped down from his position as Executive Vice President of Football Operations at the San Francisco 49ers, allowing him to focus fully on football projects through 49ers Enterprises.

Marathe has spent 25 years with the NFL franchise, balancing his responsibilities in American football with his role as President of 49ers Enterprises, the investment group that owns Leeds United.

His departure from the day-to-day running of the 49ers' football operations is expected to free up more time for the company's growing football portfolio, with Leeds remaining the flagship project alongside a smaller involvement with Rangers.

For supporters of the west Yorkshire giants, the timing is particularly significant as the club presses ahead with plans to redevelop Elland Road.

Marathe previously played an influential role in the development of Levi's Stadium in California and is now overseeing one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Leeds United's history.

The proposed expansion will increase Elland Road's capacity from around 37,600 to approximately 53,000, with work on the West Stand already underway following planning approval earlier this year.

While Marathe was always heavily involved at Leeds, stepping away from his demanding NFL role should allow him to devote even more attention to the club's long-term ambitions.

With the Elland Road redevelopment entering a crucial phase, having the chairman's focus firmly on Leeds can only be viewed as a positive as one of English football's biggest stadium projects gathers momentum.
